Vocational training In Germany, you usually complete vocational training before you practise a profession. A distinction is made between two types of vocational training: company- based training and school-based training. It is advisable for new immigrants interested in training with a language level of B1 to seek vocational advice at the Employment Agency (Agentur für Arbeit). Company-based training Company-based training or dual training consists of two parts: one part of the training takes place within the company and the other part is in a vocational school. The company takes on the practical side of the training and the vocational school provides the students with the theoretical knowledge. The dual training usually lasts for 2 to 3.5 years. Initially, the company and trainee must enter into a training contract. The company then arranges the registration at the vocational school.
