About the Holcim Midlothian Cement Plant

The Midlothian cement plant began as the BoxCrow Cement Company with the construction of a modern, efficient 1 million tons per year cement plant in 1986, with the first clinker produced in March 1987. The plant was originally built to allow doubling its size and is situated on more than 2,400 acres. Construction to double the capacity began in June 1998 with a completion of the project in March 2000, raising the total production capacity to 2.35 metric tons of cement per year. The plant has approximately 90 years of limestone reserves for its two line operation.

Current Plant Operations The Midlothian cement plant is located in Midlothian, Texas, producing Type I/II, Type I/II Low Alkali and Type IL (10) to markets in Texas and Louisiana. The 130 employee plant is designed to produce more than 2 million metric tons of cement per year using two production lines with four stage pre-heater precalciner kiln systems.

Environmental Commitment The Midlothian cement plant alternative fuel (AF) program utilizes tires as part of the plant AF program, comprising approximately 15% of the fuel profile for the plant. Plastic Derived Fuel comprises about 8% of the plant fuel profile. By utilizing alternative fuels, the plant has achieved significant

CO2 reductions, diverted tires and plastics from landfills, and reduced its dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels- all the while remained cost- competitive in the cement market.

Putting Safety First LafargeHolcim’s first priority is the health and safety of employees, subcontractors and visitors. The importance of safe behaviors and a safety mindset is constantly emphasized as the highest priority, with the goal of zero harm to people. The plant has instituted innovative, effective procedures to keep everyone safe. Community Support The Midlothian cement plant meets regularly with its Community Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the city, school district, Midlothian Cement Plant 1800 Dove Lane environmental groups as well as civic leaders and area residents.
