Teachers: Mr. Sills (3rd), Ms. Zoscsak (4th) & Ms. Garay (8th) FAQs

- What is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous learning? - Synchronous Learning is learning that takes place in real time as the teacher is actually engaging students in the learning process - Asynchronous Learning is learning that takes place at a time after the teacher has originally taught the lesson. It provides learners flexibility in the remote learning setting - Will remote learning classes be synchronous or asynchronous? - This depends on each individual student/family. All teachers will be teaching in real time that is aligned to the bell schedule. - Can students from the same team do classwork and homework together? - Yes because students from the same team, have the same teachers. FAQs (cont.)

- How will students connect with each other to make new friends during remote learning? - Despite being separated students will be in virtual learning “classrooms”. In this space, like in the traditional classroom, teachers and students will collaborate to create a learning community. Students will still work collaboratively with classmates, and their teachers. - What is the procedure for parents to report absences or tardies? How will attendance be taken during remote learning? - To report an absence, please call the main number of the school (847) 859-8200 and follow the automated reporting instructions by 10 AM. If a student is marked absent for 3 or more consecutive days, schools will follow up via phone or email with the student and their family to identify next steps. FAQs (cont.)

- If Haven is able to move from remote learning to a hybrid option, how will things change for students? Will they be assigned new teachers? Will there be “remote” teachers and “hybrid” teachers? - We will have better information to share on this as we get closer to the start of hybrid learning. The plan is to make no changes to schedules/assignments/etc FAQs (cont.)

- We can’t attend the Meet The Teacher Event. Will you be able to share your presentation materials? - Yes we will post our presentation to the website shortly. - Scheduling? - Student schedules as seen in SISK12 are correct. Related to Art, Media Arts, Music, and Drama. However there are some technical problems between SKSI12 and Google Classroom with these specific classes across the D65 middle schools. - Your child’s current Arts teacher emailed you this afternoon with the link to the first class meeting tomorrow morning. Please check your email for this important information. We look forward to seeing your child in class tomorrow. - The team will be rebuilding google classrooms over the next few days as a detour for this technical roadblock. FAQs (cont.)

- Is there a specific administrator for each grade level this year? If so how do I know which to contact? - Yes. As a means to answer questions, provide guidance and support to students, teachers, and families each grade level has its own administrator. - The administrator assignments are shown below. - 6th Grade - Mr. Latting - [email protected] - 7th Grade - Mr. Johnson - [email protected] - 8th Grade - Dr. Baker - [email protected]

We will have better information to share on this as we get closer to the start of hybrid learning. The plan is to make no changes to schedules/assignments/etc
