KNITTING WITH SHORT ROWS

INSTRUCTOR: KAT TYLEE, LITTLE HAWK 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD BROWN ARTS SCHOOLHOUSE

Short rows in aren’t nearly as scary as they seem at first. Come explore several methods of performing short rows and get ready to experience the magic of turning a heel on a , making darts on , shaping a shoulder, or adding design elements like staggered stripes. We’ll work on the small scale with swatches so you can gain confidence and then you’ll go home with a sock pattern to see just how easy it is now that you’ve had some practice.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate Knitting

Techniques Cast-on, bind-off, knit, purl, read a pattern, garter , kitchener stitch

MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE: 10

SUPPLIES TO BRING: Worsted weight and US 7 or US 8 sized knitting needles

HOMEWORK TO COMPLETE BEFORE CLASS: Obtain light colored worsted weight yarn in several colors. You won’t need much yardage so this is a perfect time to raid your stash. Nature Spun worsted is a great yarn to use for this but any worsted weight yarn will work. US 7 sized knitting needles of your choice. Any size needle close to this will work. We aren’t worried about right now.

MATERIALS FEE: None. Yarn, needles, and notions will be available to purchase.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Kat has been teaching/training people ever since her high school days while in horse 4-H. That has continued throughout the various jobs held through college and beyond, even morphing into the writing of some training manuals. Kat started her fiber adventures in 4-H with macrame projects for reins etc. for her horse. In college she learned to from her best friend, fell into at the Scotts Bluff Valley Fair, and eventually learned knitting after inheriting her dad’s knitting supplies and a mostly done pair of . As Kat has worked with the fiber arts she discovered she has a love of sharing fiber knowledge. She would love to share with you!
