It is a short historic view of this genre, where the most essential points of formation of which are touched, from the first novel to the contemporary. Trying to give a glimpse of the story of the Albanian novel, besides beginning the cultivation of this genre in our literature, we have also talked about the novel written during our national and post-Renaissance period, about the novel written after the end of the Second World War, the Albanian novel, written and published in Kosovo, as well as the novel written in Albania after the collapse of the dictatorial communist system. So we tried to include almost all literary and historical periods, so that our brief panorama is more clear and comprehensive. In a word, we tried to make a genre history that is great for studying our literature, especially the Albanian novel. Keywords: Albanian novel, brief overview, genre history, comprehensive overview 1. Introduction The formalist researcher, Mikhail Bahtin considers the novel as the only genre always being in the process of developing, and never as a completed one.”ii According to this point of view, however, we can say that even our novel is a literary structure that is taking shape differently every day.

TIRAŽ: 500 PREDGOVOR Ovom knjigom želim objasniti neke od burnih događaja u mom rodnom kraju koji su bitno utjecali na formiranje nacionalne svijesti mojih sunarodnika i na njihov ekonomski i društveno-politički položaj poslije Drugog svjetskog rata. U narodu moga kraja duboko su urezana dva događaja. Jedan je osvajanje Gusinjsko-plavskog kraja od crnogorske vojske 1912, a drugi se odnosi na razdoblje od 1919. do 1945. Njima se objašnjava dolazak jednog puka srpske vojske, koji je poslije proboja Solunskog fronta nastupao vardarskom dolinom i od Skoplja i Kosovske Mitrovice uputio se prema Crnoj Gori. Pritom se prema Podgorici kretao preko Gusinjsko-plavske krajine, nakon čega je došlo do pobune Bošnjaka i Albanaca, te pokušaja uspostavljanja nove vlasti, a zatim do formiranja dviju vasojevićkih brigada - Donja i Gornja vasojevićka - koje su se kao paravojne jedinice pridružile srpskoj vojsci i djelovale pod rukovodstvom centralne Crnogorske uprave u Podgorici. Tom su prilikom u Plavu i Gusinju formirane i dvije vojne jedinice - dva bataljona - najprije kao komitske jedinice, koje su u početku djelovale u sastavu komitskog pokreta u Crnoj Gori. Strahovalo se da se uspostavljanjem njihove vlasti ne nametnu policijske vlasti, koje su tokom 1912-1913. počinile teške zločine (masovno strijeljanje – prema nekim podacima ubijeno je preko 8.000 Bošnjaka i Albanaca, a došlo je i do nasilnog pokrštavanja oko 12.500 ljudi).

Signature 2 To the five Albanian families for opening their homes and sharing their stories with me. 3 Abstract My research explores the dialectical relationship between identity and the conceptualisation/creation of history and heritage in migration by studying a socially excluded group in Greece, that of Albanian families. Even though the Albanian community has more than twenty years of presence in the country, its stories, often invested with otherness, remain hidden in the Greek ‘mono-cultural’ landscape. In opposition to these stigmatising discourses, my study draws on movements democratising the past and calling for engagements from below by endorsing the socially constructed nature of identity and the denationalisation of memory. A nine-month fieldwork with five Albanian families took place in their domestic and neighbourhood settings in the areas of Athens and Piraeus. Based on critical ethnography, data collection was derived from participant observation, conversational interviews and participatory techniques. From an individual and family group point of view the notion of habitus led to diverse conceptions of ethnic identity, taking transnational dimensions in families’ literal and metaphorical back- and-forth movements between Greece and Albania.

Management 2 The project in a nutshell (page 2) of this protected area is today the primary focus of the Ministry of Environment, in a challenging time for achieving 3 Key project facts (page 2) tangible results with regards to biodiversity. It requires a process of responsible use of biodiversity hotspots and the protection of species and habitats. Implementation of 4 Project meetings (page 3) this transboundary project will contribute greately to the integrated management of natural and cultural heritage of the region, which is highly important for nature conservation and biodiversity. 5 Interview with the Mayor of Pogradec (page 4) Lake Ohrid Region is a mixed property and protected area included in the cross- border Biosphere Reserve of Albania and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. This project aims at addressing possible threats to the natural and cultural heritage 6 News related to the Lake of the region.     HONOR CRIMES OF WOMEN IN ALBANIAN SOCIETY BOUNDARY DISCOURSES ON “VIOLENT” CULTURE AND TRADITIONS By Armela Xhaho Submitted to Central European University Department of Gender Studies In partial fulfillment for the degree of Master of Arts in Gender Studies Supervisor: Professor Andrea Krizsan Second Reader: Professor Eva Fodor CEU eTD Collection Budapest, Hungary 2011 Abstract In this thesis, I explore perceptions of two generations of men on the phenomenon of honor crimes of women in Albanian society, by analyzing in particular discourses on cultural and regional boundaries in terms of factors that perpetuate crimes in the name of honor. I draw on the findings from 24 in depth interviews, respectively 17 interviews with two generations of men who have migrated from remote villages of northern and southern Albania into periphery areas of Tirana and 7 interviews with representatives of key institutional authorities working in the respective communities. The conclusions reached in this study based on the perceptions of two generations of men in Albania suggest that, the ongoing regional discourses on honor crimes of women in Albanian society are still articulated by the majority of informants in terms of “violent” and “backward” cultural traditions, by exonerating the perpetrators and blaming the northern culture for perpetuating such crimes. However, I argue that the narrow construction on cultural understanding of honor crimes of women fails to acknowledge the gendered aspect of violence against women as a universal problem of women’s human rights across different cultures. Pallati i Radios, kati III Tel: 038 225 566- local 220 6 PARATHËNIE Studimi i sonetit në poezinë shqipe, ka qenë një preokupim i hershëm imi, që nga vitet 1986-1989, kur i kam studiuar sonetet e Ndre Mjedjes, sepse që atëherë kam qenë i bindur se studimi i kësaj forme poetike jep një pamje esenciale të evoluimit dhe të strukturës së vargut shqip. Mirëpo, për shkak të përmbysjeve të mëdha që sollën vitet nëntëdhjetë, puna ime në këtë projekt pati ndërprerje dhe u mbajt në këmbë me një ritëm tepër të ngadaltë. Këtij projekti studimor iu riktheva me përqendrimin e duhur vetëm pas vitit 2001, kur u miratua si tezë e doktoranturës në Fakultetin e Filologjisë të Universitetit të Prishtinës. Idetë e hershme dhe materialet e mbledhura nëpër vite, qenë një ndihmesë e jashtëzakonshme, për ta intensifikuar punën në këtë projekt dhe për të sublimuar rezultatet e punës studimore për një periudhë dyvjeçare. Mirëpo, finalizimit të këtij projekti, sërish i dolën ngatërresa në rrugë, të cilat jo vetëm e shtynë mbrojtjen publike të tij për dy vjet të plota, por ndikuan që të bëja edhe disa plotësime sasiore të studimit, si dhe disa ndryshime metodologjike, të cilat nuk më ishin dukur shumë domethënëse për trajtim. 7 Versioni që po botohet, ka përjetuar disa shkurtime, që janë të natyrshme. Por, pamja e përftuar e sonetit në poezinë shqipe, besoj se mbetet mjaft e plotë dhe paraqet një pikënisje thelbësore edhe për studimet e mëtejshme në këtë lëmi.
