TOXIC REDUCTION POLICY STATEMENT OF INTENT

Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc. (P&WC) is committed to playing a leadership role in protecting the environment. Naphthalene is a constituent of Jet Fuel A-1 used at the Facility and is used by P&WC in one (1) process during the Manufacturing Stage, specifically, for the testing of gas turbine engines. P&WC does not intend to reduce the use of naphthalene. Naphthalene is not created at the Facility, therefore, this report will not address reducing its creation.

REDUCTION OBJECTIVES

P&WC prides itself on technological innovation in order to produce high quality gas turbine engines in an environmentally responsible manner. Through this plan, P&WC determined the technical and economic feasibility of each option to determine which, if any, are viable for implementation at this time.

P&WC has an on-going fuel burn reduction strategy that has managed to reduce fuel burn significantly in the last few years, by as much as 30 percent on some engine programs. Additional reductions are expected with the continued implementation of this fuel burn reduction strategy. By 2015 P&WC’s overall GHG reduction, of which fuel is a portion, is to have reduced GHG emissions by 27 percent in absolute terms (from P&WC 2010 baseline).

This document does not contain technical data DESCRIPTION OF FACILITY

The Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc. (P&WC) facility (Facility) manufactures gas turbine engines for aircrafts and helicopters and offers advanced engines for industrial applications. The Plant 22 Facility located at 1801 Courtney park Drive in Mississauga, Ontario performs testing and assembly of gas turbine engines and is involved in research and development activities for gas turbine engines.

The Primary North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code that applies to Pratt & Whitney Canada is 336410 – Aerospace Product and Parts Manufacturing.

TOXIC SUBSTANCE REDUCTION OPTIONS

P&WC has identified one potential equipment or process modification to reduce the use of Jet Fuel A-1 and the constituent compound, naphthalene: 1. Optimize engine test times and improve retest ratios.

ANTICIPATED REDUCTIONS FROM THE IMPLEMENTATION OF OPTION

The use and release of naphthalene is directly related to the quantity of Jet Fuel A-1 combusted. Therefore, any reduction in the use of Jet Fuel A-1 will results in a proportionate reduction in the use and release of naphthalene. In 2011, the total quantity of Jet Fuel A-1 consumed was 1698.9 tonnes. It is estimated that optimizing and reducing test times will reduce jet fuel usage by about 118 tonnes or 7 percent of the current usage. As a result, it is expected that corresponding reductions in the use and release of naphthalene will approximately 7 percent of current values as shown in the following table. The actual percentage reduction in the use of Jet Fuel A-1 will be ascertained after the implementation of the process modification.

TOXIC REDUCTION POLICY STATEMENT OF INTENT

Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc. (P&WC) Mississauga facility (Plant 22) is committed to playing a leadership role in protecting the environment. Whenever feasible, we will reduce the use and releases of all reportable substances in compliance with all Federal and Provincial Regulations.

In addition, P&WC has an on-going fuel burn reduction strategy that has already managed to reduce fuel burn significantly in the last few years, by as much as 30 percent (%) on some engine programs. Additional reductions are expected with the continued implementation of this fuel burn reduction strategy. By 2015 P&WC’s overall GHG reduction, of which fuel is a portion, is to have reduced GHG emissions by 27 percent in absolute terms (from P&WC 2010 baseline).

TOXIC SUBSTANCE REDUCTION OPTIONS

The following option has been identified for implementation to reduce the creation and release of PM- 2.5, PM-10, and Carbon Monoxide: 1. Optimize engine test times and improve retest ratios – implementation will be ongoing with reductions in releases anticipated in 2013 and full estimated reductions realized in 2025.

ANTICIPATED REDUCTIONS FROM THE IMPLEMENTATION OF OPTION

Implementing this option will result in reductions in the use of Jet Fuel A-1, which will result in a proportionate reduction in the use and release of PM-10, PM-2.5 and carbon monoxide. It is expected that this option will reduce jet fuel usage by about 7 percent of the current usage. As a result it is expected that corresponding reductions in the creation and release of PM-10, PM-2.5 and carbon monoxide will be about 7 percent of current values. The actual percentage reduction in the use of Jet Fuel A-1 will be ascertained after the implementation of the process modification.

The following tables summarize the estimated PM-10, PM-2.5 and Carbon Monoxide reductions from a 7 percent reduction in the use of Jet-Fuel-A1.
