Heythrop, Oxfordshire Surrounded by its own land, Dunthrop House is beautifully positioned on the edge of the peaceful village of Heythrop in prime rural Oxfordshire. Heythrop was built as a model village in the 1870’s and 1880’s by Albert Brassey after having been given the Estate by his father, Thomas Brassey, the great Victorian railway engineer. Albert revamped Heythrop Park, which had been damaged by fire, and rebuilt the village, including the new St. Nicholas Church designed by Sir , the Rectory and a school. He also planted the avenues of lime trees which give the village its unique character. The area is renowned for its beautiful and undulating countryside with Dunthrop House occupying a quiet spot close to the village. The market town of is 3 miles away providing for everyday needs including supermarkets, butchers, a fishmonger, banks, leisure facilities, garages, a theatre and an annual literary festival.
