THE NATIVITY

OF

SAINT JOHN

THE BAPTIST

Fr. Gerard (Gerry) Doyle Gerry was born in 1955 and lived in Dundrum with his parents and siblings. He attended Oatlands College and in 1973 entered Clonliffe College, Drumcondra to study for the priesthood. Ordained in 1978 he served in the following parishes: , St. Declan’s CBS Cabra, Shankhill, ProCathedral, Holy Redeemer Bray, , St. Mark’s Springfield, Johnstown/, and finally since 2015 here in Foxrock. Even though I was a priest in since 1976 two years before he was ordained our paths never crossed until he came to Springfield in 2005 where I was Parish Priest. And while we were as different as the proverbial chalk and cheese we quickly developed a close bond both personally and professionally over the 6 years prior to my coming here. I was therefore delighted when he was appointed here in 2015 though his time was too short and he was still adjusting when illness struck. He has had a very difficult 6 months and carried it privately and with great dignity. “What’s the point of complaining” he said to me recently, “Che sarà, sará” May he rest forever in God’s peace Fr. Frank.
