Enrolment conditions: Each student entering the postgraduate programme Humanities and Social Sciences (musicology, music pedagogy, composition and music theory) must have completed the following: a) a second-level study programme from one of the following fields of study: musicology, music pedagogy, composition, conducting; b) a second-level study programme from other fields of study provided that the candidates complete the academic obligations necessary for the continuation of their studies (10-60 credits). These obligations are determined on the basis of the distinctness of the area of expertise, and the candidates may complete them during their studies at the 2nd level, within training courses, or by taking exams before applying to the doctoral programme. Admission requirements are also met by candidates who have completed a course abroad equivalent to those mentioned in a) and b), and are applying under the same conditions that are valid for candidates who have completed their studies in Slovenia. 3. Course objectives and expected academic results: The student: is familiar with the possibilities of applying basic methodological principles of music research to specific examples; is equipped to critically evaluate and choose research methods by problematising existing methodological examples connected to the discussed topic; is equipped to observe unsolved methodological problems and search for new approaches to solving these problems. 4. Course content: An overview of contemporary music research methodology: the subject covers research methodology of historical and systematic musicology, composition and music theory, ethnomusicology, popular music studies, music pedagogy, and various fields of applied music research. The subject is taught in chronological and logical order, according to content and focus. The analysis of music research methods is focused on the basic issues of individual research of music phenomena and factors in their historical context. It also focuses on dissecting basic concepts of music reflection, evaluation criteria, normative systems, and the relationship to the creative and receptive process. 5.
