Tyldesley , grandson of Sir Thomas Tyldesley , the famous Royalist , contains some information of the l ife of the Caru s family at this period .

In 1 7 1 5 the Scotch forces entered England to support

u o f the ca se the Stuart dynasty, and place the Chevalier

o n . th St . George the throne On November 5 they w entered Kendal , and on the follo ing day proceeded to w w Kirkby Lonsdale , here they ere joined by Thomas

u tw wh Car s and his o sons , Thomas and Christopher , o

first brou ght the news that the town of Lancaster had

abandoned the idea of making any defence .

h the On the 7t November party , led by the Earl of

w Kenmu re Derwent ater and Lord entered Lancaster, where they assembled in the market place and pro “ w a o d claimed James I I I . ith great shout of G save

” o n the King . They then laid hands any arms , horses , and money they could find , and before quitting Lancaster they were joined by some of the neighbouring Roman

Catholic gentry and their dependents , in number about
