Notes Ambleside 1901 - Local Government Act of 1894 extended Ambleside CP to include part of Applethwaite CP. 1921 - Population figure 'inflated by the presence if summer visitors'. 1951 - County Review Order 1935 created Lakes UDC, including Grasmere and part of Troutbeck. 1981 - 3132 persons usually resident. 1991 - 3353 persons usually resident. 2001 - Recorded as Lakes CP. Applethwaite 1861 - Increase in population mainly attributable to the erection of a railways station and of villa residences. 1901 - Local Government Act of 1894 resulted in Applethwaite CP being divided between Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere CPs. Bowness on Windermere 1901 - Local Government Act of 1894 created Bowness-on -Windermere CP out of parts of Applethwaite and Undermillbeck CPs. 1911 - In 1905, Bowness and Windermere Urband Districts combined. 1981 - Bowness included in a combined figure under Windermere. Crook 1861 - Decrease in population possibly due to machinery having superseded hand labour. 1951 - Parts of , Strickland and Underbarrow & Bradleyfield moved within Crook boundary in 1935. 1981 - 379 persons usually resident. 1991 - 387 persons usually resident. Crosthwaite with Lyth 1891- In 1886 the township was enlarged due to the transfer of Lodge from Levens. 1981 - 539 persons usually resident. 1991 - 621 persons usually resident. Grasmere 1861 - Increase in population attributed to the erection of Lake residences. 1891 - Churchtown moved from Rydal and Loughrigg to Grasmere by the Divided Parishes Act, 1882. 1951 - Amalgamation of Grasmere and Ambleside UDS and adjacent parishes in 1935. 1981 - Grasmere classfied as a locality and therefore has no legally defined ondaries. No individual statistics are available. Figure given is 'total for Lakes', which comprised combined Grasmere ad Ambleside Wards. 1991 - Boundary change in 1985. Figure is for Grasmere Ward. 2001 - Total figure for Grasmere Ward. Hugill 1981 - 443 persons usually resident. 1991 - 434 persons usually resident. Kendal 1881 - Kendal was enlarged by gaining part of Nether Graveship. 1911 - Kendal CP was enlarged by the abolition of Kirkland and Nether Graveship CPs in 1908. 1921- Kendal CP gained 78 acres from Scalthwaiterigg CP in 1919. 1935 - Kendal CP gained 126 acres from Helsington CP; 264 acres from Natland CP; 140 acres from Scalthwaiterigg CP; 154 acres from Skelsmergh CP; 242 acres from Strickland Ketel CP and 79 acres from Underbarrow and Bradleyfield CP in 1935. 1981 - 23074 persons usually resident. 1991 - 24785 persons usually resident. Kentmere 1981 - 94 persons usually resident. 1991 - 94 persons usually resident. Langdales 1981 - Includes and Chapel Stiles. 1951 - Amalgamation of Grasmere and Ambleside UDS and adjacent parishes in 1935. 1981 - Langdales were classified as localities and therefore have no legally defined boundaries . Langdales Grasmereincluded in ward figure for Grasmere ward. Longsleddale 1931 - Increase in population attributed to the presence of workmen repairing roads. 1981 - 72 persons usually resident. 1991 - 70 persons usually resident. 1981 - 141 persons usually resident. 1991 - 138 persons usually resident. Natland 1861 - The establishment of the railway station and the erection of houses connected therewith have increased the population of the township of Natland. 1991 - Area affected by The (Parishes) Order 1985. New Hutton 1861 - ‘The decrease of population in the township of New Hutton is attributed to a reduction in the number of hands engaged in manufacture.’ 1901 - New Hutton CP extended to include part of Scalthwaiterigg, Hay and Hutton-in-the-Hay CPs. Most of Troutbeck transferred from Applethwaite Ward to Ambelside, the rest (south of the river) in Windermere Ward. 1951 - Troutbeck CP revised in 1935 to include Troutbeck and part of Windermere. Undermillbeck Undermillbeck lay partly in Parish of Windermere and Partly in Parish of Kendal. 1821 - Included figure for Winster Chapelry - 'the two places are untied in the maintenance of poor'. 1901 - Undermillbeck CP created by Local Governement Act of 1894. 1951 - Following the 1934 Review Order, Undermillbeck was incorporated into Windermere Urban District and Bowness-on-Windermere CP. Windermere [Parish] 1801-1881 (except 1821) census for Windermere included Below Stock Gill in Ambleside. Rest of Ambleside included in Grasmere.
