SCHOOL PROFILE Class of 2017 Ursuline Academy, an independent college preparatory school for girls, is located in Dedham, Massachusetts, twelve miles from the city of Boston. Founded in 1946 by the Ursuline Sisters, the Academy’s primary purpose is to foster the pursuit of excellence in a moral, Catholic environment.

Ursuline is accredited by the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges, and is a member of The College Board, The National Association of Independent Schools, The Association of Independent Schools of New England, The National Catholic Educational Association and The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools. The school population for grades 7-12 is 432. The class of 2017 has 61 women.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Admission is determined by competitive examination, elementary or high school transcripts, standardized test data, as well as recommendations from the student’s school. Ursuline Academy accepts those students who exhibit the potential to succeed in a highly competitive college preparatory school.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS The following 25 credit requirements must be met during the four years at Ursuline Academy. A student who fails one subject may remain in the Academy only if she successfully repeats the course during the summer. If a student fails two subjects, she is required to attend summer school as well as receive additional services at the discretion of the administration.

RANK IN CLASS Ursuline Academy does not assign a specific rank to its students due to the size and selective nature of the student body and a demanding marking system.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR Our academic year is divided into two semesters of 18 weeks, totaling 36 weeks of instruction. All students are required to take six year- long courses which meet five days per week. Theology classes meet four times per week, and Physical Education classes meet one period per week. Laboratory Sciences (Biology & Chemistry) meet six times per week.
