Dear Spellman Community, Dear Members of the Spellman Community,

The Hula Hoop, the microchip, NASA and Cardinal Spellman High School, not a group that one would think As we approach our sixtieth anniversary, Cardinal Spellman High School remains naturally fnds themselves together, yet they all have one thing in common; they all began their journey in 1958! Sixty committed to lifelong learning and providing a faith-based education to a student population years ago each of these historical treasures jumped onto the scene, and today each remain an integral part of the that now draws from forty cities and towns. human experience in America for different reasons but bound together by the same visionary spirit. This year, I conclude my 12-year tenure as a member of the Board of Trustees, serving as Sixty years ago, while Americans tuned into Jack Benny or The Ed Sullivan Show at night and Vertigo and the Board Chair for the past 5 years. We have continued to build on the foundation of The Bridge On the River Kwai reigned at the box offce, John XXIII entered the papacy, and the four institutions a Catholic education established by the Sisters of St. . I am proud of what we have mentioned above began to remind us of four important things; frst, to follow God, second, to shoot for the stars, third, while remembering that big things can accomplished to maintain our status as the independent Catholic co-educational, college preparatory high school serving communities come in small packages, and fnally that practice makes perfect! in southeastern . It is important to acknowledge our achievements because they provide the basis and the springboard for the coming years. I believe Spellman truly digested these important lessons and made them part of its enduring culture, it could not help but do so being born at such an intersection of time. Today we are reminded of this in so many ways at Spellman as we enter another decade of excellence in Catholic education. First with We have updated the infrastructure of our state-of-the-art teaching and learning systems with the 1:1 iPad program, the creation of new science every document we sign and with every mission trip we attend, (this year three of them), with every Mass we celebrate and with every prayer we say we always… labs and the Library Learning Commons. We have expanded the integration of the and continue to train our faculty and staff ”Sequere Deum” …follow God, he is the reason Spellman exists! to support these more interactive instructional methods. Our student experience has also been enhanced with the remodeled dining hall and the creation of the ftness center. Next, with our ever-expanding curriculum and athletic offerings, our commitment to be at the cutting edge of technological upgrades, we are reminded to always shoot for the stars. We have not wavered in this commitment with the creation of our strategic plan 2017-2022 and the addition of new courses this year and We owe it to the current and future student populations to provide programs and facilities that offer a competitive 21st-century academic and facilities upgrades to support the Spellman student experience. faith-based education by investing in Spellman.

It is also inherent to the Judeo-Christian experience to believe that big things come in small packages. From, and Goliath to the babe in the manger it The 2017-2022 Strategic Plan provides the framework to accomplish our future goals. I believe that the changes and elective process. Finally one of the most critical things we can teach our students is the art and skill of learning from our failures, failing fast, and rising stronger than before, It has been my honor and privilege to serve as a member of the Board. Spellman has successfully achieved 60 years of providing a college all while recognizing that these are some of the best times of their young lives. No childhood toy has presented us with a greater opportunity for learning through preparatory high school experience with excellent educational opportunities based in Catholic traditions. It is now time for each of us to do what failure, while having a blast (perhaps save the Rubiks Cube) than the Hula Hoop. The fact that our students learn to fail in a safe environment and to learn we can to invest in the future of Spellman.
