The Sansthan under its various schemes also intends to collect the Bio-data of Sanskrit Scholars and to make them available on its website. The preparation of the Software for this purpose is in its final stage. The website will give an access to know the Sanskrit scholars of the entire world and the works done by them. The present Inventory includes the details of about 5000 Sanskrit scholars. Initially, the preparation of Inventory was taken up at the Bhopal Campus of the Sansthan. Since 2009 the Bhopal Campus has been doing this work in collaboration with its Main Campus, The Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi. This Inventory on the basis of details made available by scholars in response to the Sansthan’s format presents briefly the data as under - the name of scholars, qualification, date of birth, place of birth, positions, teachers and disciples (Guru- Shishya-Parampara), numbers and titles of published books and research papers, addresses, awards and honors, foreign visits etc. and gives also a resume of their significant contributions to Sanskrit. The Sanskrit scholars mentioned in this Inventory are mostly those who were born between 1850 to 1990 A.D. The application form for entries in the Inventory of Sanskrit Scholars is available in the Sansthan’s website. A large number of Sanskrit Scholars responded. The Bio-data of several Sanskrit scholars were also collected by personal contact, through internet, correspondence, books, conferences etc. It was however, not possible to include Bio-Data of each and every scholar due to paucity of time. The Sansthan has decided to launch a ‘Wikipedia of Sanskrit Scholars’ and is hopeful of getting the co-operation of Scholars, in this regard. The Sansthan expresses its gratitude to the scholars who have offered their direct and indirect co-operation in preparing the Inventory. Prof. Balkrishna Sharma, from Ujjayini, Dr. Narayan Dash from Kolkata (W.B.), Dr. Bhai Vasant Bhatt from Gujarat, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Pandey from Varanasi and Dr. Sugyana vi laLÑrfo}Rifjpkf;dk Kumar Mohanty form Orissa have particularly helped us in getting the data. We also acknowledge the valuable assistance provided by Dr. Ajay Kumar Mishra, Lalit Kishore Sharma and Avinash Pandey who collected the Bio-Data of Scholars participating in conference held at different places in India. We are thankful to Shri Anil Sharma who designs the format of the Inventory and Shri Subhash Chandra Jain of New Bharatiya Book Co-operation, New Delhi who took great pains in publishing it in a very short time. Though the Inventory is not complete in itself, yet it is believed that it will be helpful to readers, researches and those who are willing to know the contributions of scholars to Sanskrit studies spanning over last 150 years. Abstract The classical Indian dance style of Bharatanatyam evolved out of the sadir dance of the devadāsīs. Through the colonial period, the dance style underwent major changes and continues to evolve today. This paper aims to examine the elements of eroticism and devotion within both the sadir dance style and the contemporary Bharatanatyam. The erotic is viewed as a religious path to devotion and salvation in the Hindu religion and I will analyze why this eroticism is seen as religious and what makes it so vital to understanding and connecting with the divine, especially through the embodied practices of religious dance. Introduction Bharatanatyam is an Indian dance style that evolved from the sadir dance of devadāsīs. Sadir has been popular since roughly the 6th century. The original sadir dance form most likely originated in the area of Tamil Nadu in southern India and was used in part for temple rituals. Because of this connection to the ancient sadir dance, Bharatanatyam has historic traditional value. It began as a dance style performed in temples as ritual devotion to the gods. This original form of the style performed by the devadāsīs was inherently religious, as devadāsīs were women employed by the temple specifically to perform religious texts for the deities and for devotees. Because some sadir pieces were dances based on poems about kings and not deities, secularism does have a place in the dance form.

Mahavira (Niyamasara, 99) TEMPLES SEVERAL HINDU AND JAIN TEMPLES FACE DEMOLITION IN THE MANGALORE AREA Mangalore, The Supreme Court has stated that 1,201 Hindu and 17 Jain places of worship are currently under threat of being demolished because they are considered to be religious institutions that are located in public places and apparently fall under a list of unauthorized religious construction. Mohan Gowda, Hindu Jana Jagruti Vedike spokesperson stated that the government has decided to go ahead with demolishing this large number of religious structures. The verdict of the Supreme Court clearly states that all religious structures that are built after December 7, 2009 must be demolished and most of these religious structures are Hindu temples across Mangalore. With regards to those places of worship built before December 7, 2009–they will be examined case by case before a decision is made for whether they will become regularized structures, relocated or demolished. A very short notice has been given with no opportunity for appeal and the state government in its affidavit to the Supreme Court has agreed to clear all illegal religious structures by the end of this month. Gowda further stated that although the Supreme Court has allowed for temples that are over 30 years old to be regularized, the Karnataka government is simply seeking to demolish because the process of regularizing will be time consuming and not worth their time.
