Though it becomes quite difficult to trace the origin of this grand happening, the magnetic force inherent in such rarest human activity attracts devotees from different parts of the world irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Ratha Yatra is the matter of pride and most precious occurrence for all Oriyas. A discerning eye would reveal many hidden aspects of this most enigmatic cult. To protect the institution revolving round the Lord therefore becomes the prime responsibility of the people of Orissa and the Government they have voted for. With this objective in view, the Government of Orissa has already posted a Commissioner rank officer to systematise the administrative functioning of Sri Mandir.     Madison Hindu Community Celebrates Chariot Festival (Report by Akash Pattnaik, 10th grade, Middleton High School, Wisconsin) In the seaside city of Puri, Odisha, India one million people gather every year to witness a grand spectacle, the Rath Yatra. The Chariot Festival begins when the three gods—Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra, and younger sister Lord Subhadra—board three magnificent, forty-five feet chariots and pay a visit to their “garden house”, the Gundicha Temple, two miles from their home. During the procession, the gods are brought to their vehicles and pulled across the Grand Avenue by devotees from around the world of all religions. It is considered very pious to even catch a glimpse of the gods while they are in their chariots. This event is broadcasted live across India and on international networks abroad. To keep connections with some of the biggest festivals in Hinduism and raise awareness of the Chariot Festival abroad, the American Hindu Association held the second annual Rath Yatra at the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center (HTCC) in Fitchburg on the 13th of July 2013. The festivities mirrored those occurring 8000 miles away in Puri with the procession of the chariot around the HTCC’s 7 acre property. The 400 attendees took part in the festivities which closely matched those occurring in Puri, India. The priest Pt. Raghuchandra Bhatt from Milwaukee conducted the ceremony and the lords were offered more than 40 Indian delicacies. Devotees returned from pulling the chariots to a fun-filled Indian fair. The American Hindu Association and Taj Indian Restaurant sold mouth-watering Indian snacks.

    IN THE HIGH COURT OF JHARKHAND AT RANCHI. W.P. (PIL) No. 3694 of 2015 COURT ON ITS OWN MOTION Dated: 10th August, 2015 Per Virender Singh, C.J. This court noticed through electronic media of today i.e. 10.08.2015 that stampede took place on 10.08.2015 at about 04:30 a.m., near a temple of Goddess Durga in Belbagan locality which is about 3 k.m far from Baba Baidya Nath Dham Temple, Deoghar. The said fact is also available on e- newspaper, prabhatkhabar.com. 2. According to the report, the tragedy took place when people started trying to jump queue in order to get closer to the temple. In the aforesaid incident about 11 persons have been reported dead and more than 50 persons were injured. 3. Suo Motu cognizance is being taken on the aforesaid news item and following persons are being made as party respondents:- (i). The State of Jharkhand through the Chief Secretary, Jharkhand; (ii). The Dy. Commissioner, Deoghar; (iii). The Director General of Police, Jharkhand; (iv) The Superintendent of Police, Deoghar; (v). The Jharkhand State Hindu Religious Trust Board, Jharkhand; and (vi). The Management Board, Baidyanath Dham Temple, Deoghar. 4. On asking of the Court, Mr. Ajit Kumar, learned Additional Advocate General, appears and accepts notice on behalf of the State. 5. Let notice be issued to the remaining respondents. 6. The respondents are being directed to file their counter affidavits with regard to acknowledge this court about the cause of accident, measures, both interim and final, are being taken for preventing the similar accident in future, about the persons who are responsible for the above accident and the steps which has been taken against them.

To match with this innumerable orthodox senseless traditions and rituals are blindly followed by most of the Indians. In fact, the whole edifice of the Indian society and its culture is founded on these constructs. Other important places are Bodh Gaya, Maithon Dam, and this town is only at 260 km distance by rail route from Kolkata. Bodh Gaya Lying at 220 km distance from Dhanbad. According to Jain tradition, no less than 23 out of 24 Tirthankaras (including Parsvanatha) are believed to have attained salvation here. Baidyanath Temple Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar at a distance of 134 km from Dhanbad. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples. Maithon Dam Maithon is 52 km from Dhanbad. This is the biggest reservoir in the Damodar Valley. This dam, designed for flood control, has been built on Barakar river.

    Preface Pilgrimage places like Varanasi, Prayag, Haridwar and Vrindavan have always got prominent place in any pilgrimage of the devotees and its importance is well known. Many mythological stories are associated to these places. Though Orissa had many temples, historical places and natural scenic beauty spot, but it did not get so much prominence. This may be due to the lack of connectivity. Buddhism and Jainism flourished there followed by Shaivaism and Vainavism. After reading the lives of Sri Chaitanya, Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and direct disciples we come to know the importance and spiritual significance of these places. Holy Mother and many disciples of Sri Ramakrishna had great time in Orissa. Many are blessed here by the vision of Lord Jagannath or the Master. The lives of these great souls had shown us a way to visit these places with spiritual consciousness and devotion. Unless we read the life of Sri Chaitanya we will not understand the life of Sri Ramakrishna properly. Similarly unless we study the chapter in the lives of these great souls in Orissa we will not be able to understand and appreciate the significance of these places. If we go on pilgrimage to Orissa with same spirit and devotion as shown by these great souls, we are sure to be benefited spiritually. This collection will put the light on the Orissa chapter in the lives of these great souls and will inspire the devotees to read more about their lives in details. This will also help the devotees to go to pilgrimage in Orissa and strengthen their devotion.
