Committee of Adjustments Etobicoke York Panel 399 The West Mall , ON M9C 5A3

______date

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: Support for Toronto Commandery Hospice I write in support of the proposal to build The Toronto Commandery Hospice at 75 Kincort Street.

Toronto has a great need for Residential Hospice Care. Our hospitals are over-crowded, our health care budget is over-stretching and hospitals are short staffed. As important, our hospitals are designed to cure or help people recover and are not well suited for End of Life Care. Unlike a hospital, a hospice need not be concerned with cures or expensive equipment to test, diagnose and prolong life. The number of doctors and staff needed to care for any patient is significantly reduced . Hospice is there to provide comfort for the patient and support for the family.

I know of no residential hospice beds to serve , or Scarborough so The Toronto Commandery Hospice will be an asset to our greater Community.

The location, 75 Kincort St., may not seem ideal, but with today’s demand for land, we cannot expect a hospice to compete with developers without a significant cost. While approval of the site is a municipal matter, our City should step forward to recognize this dire need and assist in every way possible. Indeed, all levels of government must work together to make this hospice a reality. The province has contributed by funding nursing costs.

Now, as the Committee of Adjustment, it is in your hands to help make this much needed community resource a reality.

Please give this project careful time and consideration; you can help our Community and your constituents by approving The Toronto Commandery Hospice.

Sincerely,
