GAUGE:

16 sts + 18 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR . BODY From RS with circular needle, pick up and k 216 sts along purled long edge of neck strip. Rows 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 (WS): K2, *p8, k4; rep from * to last 10 sts, p8, k2. Rows 2, 4 and 8 (RS): P2, *k8, p4; rep from * to last 10 sts, k8, p2. Row 6: P2, *4/4 RC, p 4; rep from * to last 10 sts, k8, p2. Row 10: P2, *k8, p4; rep from * to last 10 sts, k8, p2. Rep Rows 1-10 until piece measures 5 in. (12.5 cm) from pick up row, end with a WS row. Purl 2 rows. Beginning with a k row, work in St st for 6 rows. Change to Welt Pattern, AT THE SAME TIME, 1 st each edge every 20 rows until you have a total of 230 sts. Work until entire piece measures about 40 in. (101.5 cm) from beg. Bind off.
