— Dynamic response to Fast Growing 1st Energy Needs mover in Independent Power Production in South Africa By 2050, Africa will be home to at least 2 billion people – twice as many as today – with 40% living in rural areas. In 2016, about 588 million African people (48% of the population) had no access to electricity, and 848 million one (71% of the population) were living without clean cooking facilities. Africa’s economies are growing currently at an average of the rate of 4% per year. Six of the world’s ten fastest growing economies over the past decade were in sub-Saharan Africa. largest However, sustaining such growth will only be possible if fuelled by a much larger and better performing energy sector. wind farms in Africa Africans currently consume only one quarter of the global average energy per capita, using a mix of hydropower, 1.4 fossil fuels and biomass – mostly in traditional uses. South Africa Vredendal solar park gigawatts of capacity in operation 1.75 gigawatts of capacity under construction — Contributing much-needed capacity

ENGIE develops centralized power generation with a balanced mix and depending on the availability of renewable and gas resources. ENGIE will also propose decentralized power generation where economically relevant: off-grid or micro-grid solutions for local communities, remote populations and industries such as mining or telecom towers. The choice of fuel (renewables including biomass, gas…) and technology will depend on the clients’ needs and on available resources and their cost.

4 | ENGIE | A long-term energy partner for Africa's growing energy needs ENGIE’s main positions in Africa are situated in South Africa and Morocco where the Group manages and develops a number of power stations and has a strong energy services business. ENGIE also has regional development offices in Kenya and Ivory Coast.

Morocco

Demand for electricity has been increasing an average of 6% per year since 1998 and should continue for the next 20 years. The country has implemented a national energy policy which favours the development of renewable energy. Morocco aims to have 42% of installed capacity powered by renewable sources by 2020 and 52% by 2030. In Morocco, ENGIE develops new power generation plants from both renewable and thermal energy. Wind energy The Tarfaya wind park is operated by a 50 / 50 joint venture (TAREC) between ENGIE and Nareva Holding. With its 301 MW, it is one of the biggest wind farms in Africa to date. It consists of 131 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.3 MW each. Launched in January 2015, the Tarfaya site represents 15% of the target Morocco has set for wind energy development. It is operated under a 20 years “Build, Own, Operate and Transfer” (BOOT). The wind farm is situated on the desert coast of Morocco and enjoys optimum wind conditions and a high utilization rate of 45%. Tarfaya prevents the emission of 900,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and accounts for around 40% of Morocco total wind capacity. Thermal power The Safi power project involves the construction of two state-of-the-art thermal power generation units (2 x 693 MW). After its commissioning, expected in 2018, the electricity produced by the Safi plant will be sold to the “Office National de l’Électricité et de l’Eau Potable”, under a 30 years power purchase agreement. This plant is the first in Africa to use ultra-supercritical clean coal technology, which is characterized by an optimization of the environmental performance and 10% higher efficiency compared to conventional plants. The plants will ensure a significant reduction of CO2 emissions and reduced fuel costs. The project company SAFIEC is held by ENGIE (35%), Nareva Holding (35%) and Mitsui & Co (30%).

ENGIE is actively developing its power activities especially in wind energy. ENGIE signed in October 2017 a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement to build, own and operate a 250 MW wind farm together with its consortium partners Toyota Tsusho Corporation/Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation (40%) and Limited (20%). The wind farm will be located in Ras Ghareb on the Gulf of , an optimal site with more than 60% of gross capacity factor. With this large wind project, ENGIE becomes an important player in Egypt’s ongoing renewable energy transition. ENGIE is also developing the West of Nile project composed of wind, PV and CSP.

South Africa

South Africa is the biggest electricity market in Africa, with an installed capacity of more than 45 GW. Given that the vast majority of this power is generated by Eskom using coal, the Government initiated a renewable energy IPP procurement program. Through the program up to 6,000 MW of wind, solar PV and solar CSP projects were procured, developed and commissioned. ENGIE successfully competed in these procurement rounds and established itself as the leading IPP in the country. The Government has committed to continue the renewable program and ENGIE is ideally placed to continue its success in the country. Wind Energy Aurora Wind Power is a 94 MW wind farm 130 km North of Cape Town near Vredenburg in Western Cape Province. It has 47 x 2 MW wind turbines. Aurora Wind Power is part of the government’s REIPPPP to develop renewable energies by independent power producers (the “world-class renewable energy IPP procurement programme”). The programme aims to develop 1,850 MW of wind power over 20 years. Construction of the wind farm began end 2013 and was commissioned in June 2015. The plant will be in operation for 20 years under the Power Purchase Agreement. This will result in a total of 5.6 million tons of CO2 saved. The shareholding in Aurora Wind Power is held by ENGIE (43%), Investec Bank (34.5%), Kagiso Tiso Holdings (20%) and Omoya Power (2.5%).
