The school’s programs had been administered through Alianza Dominicana, and are now part of Sept. 15 - Oct. 15 the Catholic Charities Communities Services (CCCS). The conference’s theme, “Keep Calm and Stay Strong: Fighting Violence with Education,” brought out over 250 youth participants, and was held in honor of the late Commissioner Richard L. Murphy, creator of the Beacon initiative. The conference focused on using different alternatives to combat violence. The Reverend Alfonso Wyatt served as conference keynote speaker. Local elected officials, such as State Senator Gustavo Rivera, La Plaza Beacon Assemblymember Gabriela School celebrated its Annual Youth Rosa, and Councilmember Conference. Robert Jackson collaborated on a speak-out and engaged the youths in dialogue. They were joined by Monsignor Kevin Sullivan and CCCS Executive Keep Calm and Stay Strong Director Beatriz Díaz Taveras. He relayed that he was very impressed with the work of the Beacon School hosts youth conference youths, and spoke about the programs.
