The Office of Rail Transport data confirm the increase in PKP CARGO market share in March

After three months of 2015, PKP CARGO achieved a 47.5% market share in terms of freight, an increase by 0.8 pp compared to last year and by 0.3 pp compared to the result after two months of 2015. In terms of transport performance, the share of PKP CARGO was 55.72%, increasing by 0.9 pp compared to the first two months. The total volume of goods transported by rail in March was 18.81 million tonnes, 1.17% less compared to March 2014, and the transport performance increased by 1.2% to 4.25 billion tonnes- kilometers.

According to the Office of Rail Transport data, on a year-to-year basis, the market share of PKP CARGO in terms of transport performance decreased by 1.4 pp.

In terms of commodity groups, the transport of ores, pyrites and containers was particularly successful for PKP CARGO in March. In terms of performance, the transport of ores increased compared to last year by 80%. As regards intermodal transport, PKP CARGO Group recorded a double-digit increase YOY, i.e. by more than 15%. Compared to March of the last year, we also recorded increase in transportation of coal and chemical products.

After three months of 2015, further positions, in terms of volume transported, are occupied by: DB Schenker Rail Polska (17.73%, decrease from 19.64% last year), (5.71%, increase from 4.13%), PKP LHS (4.58%, decrease from 4.79% last year) and CTL Logistics (3.18%, increase from 3.11%).

In terms of transport performance, number two on the market is Lotos Kolej with participation of 9.93% (previous year: 8.03%), the third place was taken by PKP LHS (6.98% compared to 7.24% last year), followed DB Schenker Rail with 5.56% (5.82% last year) and CTL Logistics with 4.6% (5.1% last year).

According to data from the ORT, there are 58 freight carriers on the market at present.

On 30 October 2013, PKP CARGO was floated on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, becoming the first stock-listed rail freight operator in the EU. The public offering, during which PKP S.A. sold almost 50 percent of shares of PKP CARGO, totalled PLN 1.42 billion. The Company is now part of the mWIG40 index.
