- No parades - No dancing - No music - No meeting in pubs - No eating out - No tourists, visitors - No economic profit - No joy, happiness, fun CARNIVAL IN ROTTWEIL MEMORIES

- Freezing cold - Walk of 45 minutes into town - Waiting for the parade - Singing for the sweets, oranges, pretzels - Proudly coming back home - Having tea with „Berliners“ from our mother - Kind of doughnut filled with jam CARNIVAL IN ROTTWEIL ORIGINS - Clear religious origin (days before fasting period, Ash Wednesday) - No meat after festivities, no eggs, but fish was allowed - Economic consequences: butchers had to make a profit to survive the fasting period, all fat had to be used up (doughnuts!) - Poultry had to be handed in to estate owners, landlords - Symbolic meaning: no sex allowed, many weddings in the during Carnival - Customs go back to 14th century in Rottweil (written proofs!) - Festivities were accepted by Catholic Church
