1. VENUE All briefing / agenda items for 2018 APLAP Conference activities will be held at The Toshi Center Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.

2. TRAVELER ESSENTIALS

a. Weather: The weather in the end of October can still be quite cold and will between 10 – 19 Celsius.

b. Language: Japanese is the in Japan.

c. Power Plug: In Japan, the electricity voltage is AC100V, with a frequency of 50Hz in eastern Japan (Tokyo Metropolis) and 60Hz in western Japan.

The power plug in Japan is the flat, two‐pin “A Type” plug, so a plug adapter for personal appliances may be necessary if you require a 3‐prong or round plug. Delegates wishing to bring their own electrical devices are advised to bring appropriate adapters or transformers. The hotel may offer adapters on availability basis.

d. No Smoking Areas: In Japan, under the Health Promotion Act, smoking is not permitted inside most public facilities including stations and on public transportation. Most hotels designate smoking areas on the premises. Some local governments including Tokyo Metropolis have implemented stricter smoking regulations and impose a fine to

1 offenders who smoke or hold a lighted cigarette in smoking restricted areas. Some streets and certain public spaces may be designated as non‐smoking zones.

e. Safe Drinking Water: Tap water in Japan is safe to drink. In addition, bottled mineral water can be purchased in convenience stores, supermarkets and vending machines.

3. MEALS

Lunch and tea break will be provided from 31 Oct. ‐ 2 Nov. 2018. Dinner will be provided from 31 Oct. – 1 Nov. 2018.

4. MEDICAL

Participants are responsible for all medical related expenses; the organizer will not provide medical coverage to participants coming for 2018 APLAP Conference.

(In such instances, please ensure that delegates arrive at the airport with adequate time to clear the customs processing of bonded items).
