Enabling Flash on Chrome, , and

Some legacy HMH products require Flash to function, so Flash will have to enabled on the browser the class is using until both Flash and Flash-dependent programs are discontinued after December 2020.

Follow these instructions to enable Flash in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

Enabling Flash on

Program settings in Google Chrome may be set to ask users to enable Flash before launching the program. Chrome will remember the setting, though it will display a message reminding users that Flash will be discontinued after December 2020 whenever the browser is opened.

To enable Flash, click the blocked plugin icon at the top right of the Chrome browser, then click Manage. This will open the Flash settings page. (Clicking Settings  Advanced  Privacy & Security  Site Settings  Flash also opens this page.)

Click the toggle switch here to switch the Chrome setting to Ask First (the toggle is turned off by default).

When opening a program that requires Flash, Chrome will display a confirmation window. Click Allow from the window.

Enabling Flash on Mozilla Firefox

Launching Flash-dependent programs in Firefox will display the following message:

If the message fails to open, but the program requires Flash activation, an icon will show in the URL bar:

Click Activate or the icon to activate Flash. Firefox has two options.

• Allow Now: Activates Flash only for a single visit. • Allow and Remember: Activates Flash for all future visits to that site. Select Allow and Remember to allow Firefox to remember the setting, thus eliminating the need to activate every time the program is opened.

Enabling Flash on Safari

Note that HMH does not support Mac OS version 10 or earlier.

For computers using Mac OS 11 or later:

Open Safari and click Safari  Preferences.

Click the Website and click the checkbox to enable Flash.

Select a setting for how to activate Flash.

In Safari, Flash may also be configured for individual websites or programs. Open the website in a browser tab, then follow the previous instructions.

The URL will appear on the Preferences  Websites screen. Click the URL, then select the setting from the pulldown menu.

Exit Preferences and refresh the browser.
