WINE ROADS OF

Day 1. : (D), 20 km Arrival in Belgrade, accommodation in 3-star hotel in city centre. After a short break and rest, a sightseeing tour of Belgrade follows, walking the streets in the centre of town and enjoying interesting stories about the history of Belgrade, its architecture and its life. During this time we introduce you to the city centre, the shopping zone, and the biggest green area of Belgrade – . We will visit Skadarlija, the perfect place to feel the spirit of old Belgrade, enjoy specialities of Serbian cuisine, taste good wines and relax in the pleasant music of the . Free time, return to the hotel, overnight stay.

Day 2. : Belgrade – Vršac – Gudurica (BD) 105 km After breakfast, departure to Vršac, a beautiful city on the border with Romania. Visit the Catholic and Orthodox churches and then the Patriarch’s Palace. Walk through the beautiful baroque town and then visit the Pharmacy on the Stairs and the gallery of Paja Jovanović, one of the most famous Serbian painters. In the afternoon we will follow the wine road to Gudurica, a village where , , Macedonians, Roma, Romanians, a single Turk (an old confectioner) and one French woman live together. The latter moved to Vršac after she fell in love with the great wines of this region. We visit a few wine cellars. In each cellar we will taste the specialties of the peoples who live together in Gudurica. We have dinner (we recommend goulash) in one of them, to the wonderful music of the tamburica. Back to Vršac, overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 3.: Vrsac – – Belo Blato – Turija (BL) 205 km After breakfast our journey continues to Zrenjanin, where we will introduce the main sights of Zrenjanin and walk around the centre. Then we come to the most multicultural village in Vojvodina – Belo Blato. This village is home to over twenty nationalities, the most numerous being Slovaks, Hungarians, Bulgarians and Serbs. We visit a reed workshop and learn about the production of reed products. In its yard is a windmill from the nineteenth century. Enjoy the varied cuisine, music and folk-dancing that make this small, orderly, harmonious community special. Lunch at a typical farmstead (salaš) where you can taste the specialities of Belo Blato village. Trip continues to the Kaštel manor-house. A welcome buff et awaits you, as custom dictates should be off ered to guests. We will take a walk through the hundred-year old park surrounding the manor-house and hear the story of the aristocratic Lazar family. Arrival in Turija, welcome to the hotel with traditional Serbian cake (a type of bread called pogača) and salt. Welcome dinner at the restaurant and overnight stay.

Day 4.: Turija (BL) 10km We spend all day in this idyllic village. After breakfast, we depart (in carriages) to the traditional house. We have a short folk-dance program and a chance to learn a traditional Serbian dance. We take a tour of the village church and then a boat ride to a čarda (riverside restaurant). We have a light lunch with fresh fi sh specialities. We then visit one of the households in the village with its modern agricultural machinery. Optional: driving a tractor to the fi elds and seeing a combine harvester worth nearly half a million eur, or a Pannonian treasure hunt. Return to hotel and relax. Optional evening activity: clay pigeon shooting, playing Preference or preparing stew together.

Day 5.: Turija - Biserno ostrvo - Salaš 137- (BL) 50km After breakfast we will continue forward to the Biserno ostrvo, known for its famous wine growing Krokan and Tiska Perla. Wine tasting in the vineyard. Late lunch at the Farm 137. For lunch we will have traditional food served by the slow food system. Tambourine music and unique wine will complete the day. Trip by wine roads continues to Novi Sad. Arrival and sightseeing of the most important features of the city: downtown, pedestrian zone and . Free time, leisure and overnight at the hotel in Novi Sad.

Day 6.: Novi Sad- - Maradik – Krčedin – Sremski Karlovci (BL) 80 km After breakfast, we go to Sremski Karlovci. A short visit to the church at Tekije where we hear the story of the last battle with the Turks in this region in 1716. Arrival in Sremski Karlovci, with a short tour of the most important sights. This is a small, baroque town on the slopes of Fruška . Wine-tasting in a famous family wine cellar. Visit Krušedol monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the area of Fruška Gora. We continue to Maradik where we visit a traditional house and try homemade doughnuts and hot home-made wine or brandy. Now in a good mood, we will visit Krčedin, where the hosts will welcome us with traditional dishes and tamburica music. Tasting of the best wines from Fruška Gora. After a break on a farm, we return to Sremski Karlovci for free time and our overnight stay.

Day 7.: Sremski Karlovci - Manastir Rakovac - Banoštor – Irig (BL) (60km) We spend this day visiting other important and representative sights of Srem. After breakfast, we visit Rakovac Monastery, one of 16 monasteries on Fruška Gora. Then we visit a new winery with excellent wines. We continue our journey to the village of Banoštor. Our hosts will meet us with delicious cakes from this area. Banoštor is located on the slopes of Fruška Gora, close to the river, and an enjoyable raft-ferry ride on the Danube will help us to relax and enjoy the wines. We visit a family winery and taste their wines. On to another winery, and then to “Majkina radionica” (“Mother’s Workshop”) where we will try diff erent specialities from Srem and travel in the Srem time machine back to the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s. There follows a visit to a winery with a tradition of grape-growing and wine-production going back more than 100 years, located in a picturesque part of the village of Irig. Wine- tasting and snacks to round this tour off . Return to Sremski Karlovci, overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 8. Sremski Karlovci – – Belgrade (BL) (100 km) After breakfast at the hotel, we go on a sightseeing trip around the village of Kovilj. The most numerous inhabitants are Serbs, but there are Hungarians, Roma, Czechs, Croats, Bunjevci, Macedonians, and Slovaks living there too. On this trip we will visit the monastery in Kovilj which according to tradition, St founded in the thirteenth century as a testimony to the reconciliation of the Serbs and Hungarians. The monks are famous for their spiritual activities, and more recently for their production of honey, brandy, cheese and ajvar (tomato and pepper preserve), their icon-painting and the activities of their choir. We will visit Arkanj on the Danube, with its well-known čarda (riverside restaurant) called “At the End of the World.” In the “By the End of the World” winery we will taste some excellent wines, including some kept in barrels of French walnut. We will also see the house of famous Serbian poet Laza Kostić and more besides. and provide a nice experience no matter what the mood is right here next to our meetings. Follows trip to Belgrade.
