From the Desk of Fr. Paul September 10, 2017 Extreme Gratitude This week we shall celebrate the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross on September 14th and then on September 15th, the Memorial of . Both are rather special to me personally.

I was baptized, as an infant, on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. That was the day on which I received the gift of and was made a Christian. This is the greatest gift that the Father could give any of us, and should never be taken lightly. Why me and not another? What a mystery His love is! For me it has been significant, as well, that a long time ago, as a teenager, my spiritual awakening came about on that very same day, and over the years I have seen the power of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection transform my life in ongoing and sometimes dramatic ways.

I pray that our Lord will bring to completion in me, and in all of you who are deeply woven into the tapestry of my priesthood, His saving Redemption, so that we together will share a place in His Kingdom!

The Memorial of our Lady of Sorrows, which recalls our Divine Lord giving each of us the beautiful gift of Mary as our Mother in the person of Young St. John, also has deep significance for me. She has helped me in a very tangible way to grow, and obtained for me graces from our Lord that are unmistakably her maternal gift to me as a of her beloved Son. I have seen her transform other people’s lives in a most dramatic way; in some cases, from great sinners to real disciples of Jesus. Words cannot adequately express how grateful I am.

Reflect on the salvation Christ won for us and on the great gift of Mary’s loving intercession this week. There is much for which we owe tremendous gratitude as we continue along the journey of life!

Saturday, October 28 – 7:00 AM – 1:45 PM Includes Continental Breakfast and Lunch - 10 - Parish of Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady Consider Joining The Flock - Grades 8-12!

The youth group at Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady is open to students in grades 8-12. Our mission is to participate in faith-based parish and community service activities, particularly in sup- port of the most poor and vulnerable in society. This teen group usually meets two Sundays per month for prayer and reflection as well as to plan and organize a variety of events. It is a great way to make friends and spend time with fellow Catholics. Many of our members participate at the Sunday 5:00 PM Mass as Ushers, Altar Servers, Lectors, and as singers or musicians in the Folk Choir. Formerly known as CYO, our group has been active in the parish for many decades.

Our CYO teen group will now be known as “The Flock”. Our students chose this name as a reflection of our call as Catholic-Christians to be the flock of Christ, the Good Shepherd. We are a spiritual flock; we hear the voice of our shepherd, and we strive to follow him. We hope the character of our group will do justice to this new name. In addition, this name may also help to distinguish our teen group from the CYO athletics program, which is also strong in our parish.

The Flock runs under the care and guidance of Adult Advisors, a cleri- cal Moderator, and teen Officers. Our Advisors have each served for a number of years. I am a 1996 graduate of ICS and have served as an Adult Advisor since 2006. I am a teacher of Religious Studies and Director of Global Programs at School of the Holy Child in Rye. Kev- in Reilly, a 2002 graduate of ICS, has served as an Adult Advisor since 2007. Kevin works for the parish in a number of roles. My husband, Anthony Aquilato, has been an Advisor since 2009. He works as a salesman of commercial and residential plumbing and building supplies. Fr. Connolly joined us last year as our clerical Moderator; he lends the group excellent spiritual guidance. Our Pastor, Fr. Sorgie, also provides enormous support for our teen group, as do the other priests and .

The youth are the future of the Church. The Flock works to in- still in them a closeness to Christ, a deep respect for the value of each human person, and a passion for service to others.

If you have any questions regarding The Flock, if you are a stu- dent who is interested in joining, or if you have suggestions or want to help serve the group in any way, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Our first meeting this school year will take place on Sunday, September 17, at 6:00 PM in the Meeting House - hope to see you there!

Sincerely, Alina Troya Aquilato
