Bible Bits December 8, 2019 The First Reading this Second Sunday of Advent is from Isaiah (11:110). In the first half of the last century, a popular belief among many “form critics” was that Isaiah was written by early Christians following the crucifixion of our Lord. Form criticism is a method of biblical criticism that classifies units of Scripture by literary pattern and then seeks to trace Christmas Eve Mass Times: each type to its period of oral transmission. The argument by these critics was that so much of Isaiah Tuesday, December 24 detailed Christian themes, it had to be postChrist. I 5:00 pm myself, as a college freshman, was taught this idea in my Old Testament Class at Westminster College in Midnight Salt Lake City in 195657. But wait, there’s more! The Dead Sea Scrolls, including a complete Isaiah scroll, Christmas Day Mass Times: carbon dated at least a centuryandahalf pre Christianity, discovered 194657, uncovered a Wednesday, December 25 complete Isaiah scroll which was being unveiled at the time my professor was teaching me form criticism 8:00 am which said it was written post start of Christianity. 10:00 am Sometimes experts are mistaken.
