FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 11, 2007 – The Hyundai Santa Fe has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest honor – the “TOP SAFETY PICK” award – in a recent evaluation by the Institute. The Santa Fe achieved this award by receiving a “good” rating for front, side and rear crash protection, and for offering standard Electronic Stability Control, the industry’s most effective lifesaving technology since the . The new Santa Fe has already earned the National Highway Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) top fivestar ratings for front and side impacts. The Santa Fe joins the Entourage as Hyundai’s growing IIHS list of vehicles with “TOP SAFETY PICK” awards for excellent ratings and standard ESC.

“We are thrilled that Santa Fe achieves the gold standard for SUV safety,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai’s vicepresident of Product Development and Strategic Planning. “This award underlines our leadership in the standard application of the industry’s most effective lifesaving technologies, such as sidecurtain and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).”

STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES The Santa Fe continues Hyundai’s leadership in standardizing the industry’s most effective safety technologies. The Santa Fe features six standard airbags, including side air curtains for all three rows of available seating. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities in SUVs by more than 52 percent, according to the IIHS. Side curtain air protection is optional on many compact and midsize SUVs.

In addition, all Santa Fe trim levels come standard with ESC, which compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual behavior and then individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer. A recent study by the IIHS found that ESC reduces the risk fatal singlevehicle SUV rollovers by 80 percent. Santa Fe joins Tucson, Sonata, Azera, Veracruz and Entourage as yet another Hyundai vehicle with standard ESC. In the 2007 model year, over 70 percent of Hyundai vehicles sold will come equipped with standard ESC – a commitment to this sophisticated and effective technology that is unmatched by any other nonluxury automotive brand.

Front and rear disc brakes are standard and are coupled with a fourchannel Antilock Braking System (ABS) that includes Assist, which provides maximum braking force when a panic stop is detected and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) to automatically adjust the braking force to front and rear axles based on the vehicle loading conditions.

All seating positions feature threepoint seatbelts and adjustable head restraints. Frontseat active head restraints help prevent by automatically reducing the space between a front occupant’s head and the during a rear collision. Which, according to the IIHS gives these vehicles with “active” head restraints improved rear crash protection. The Santa Fe also features a standard pressure monitoring system.

“Other manufacturers have recently introduced allnew vehicles and have chosen to make side air bags or ESC expensive options, to meet a lower starting price,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai’s vicepresident of Product Development and Strategic Planning. “Our customers tell us overwhelmingly that they expect effective safety technologies to be standard in every , and we agree.”

This midsized crossover vehicle is targeted to meet buyers seeking safety, style, sophistication and performance in a roomy, flexible upscale crossover package with available seven passengers seating.
