Hofstra Summer Camps offers the Spring Break Program: Video Fusion Studio Monday-Thursday, March 25-28, 2013 For students entering grades 4-12 Workshop fee: $525

Hofstra University’s Spring Break Program offers students an incredible opportunity to participate in a fun and exciting weeklong intensive course on design, 3-D modeling and animation, and music and ! This program takes place at Hofstra’s state-of-the-art computer lab facilities!

In the video portion of the course, new students learn how to create their own video from scratch using Game Maker software, while returning students have the opportunity to enhance their previously created games with new features and additions. Students are introduced to many different programming techniques and concepts, such as character movement, collision detection, artificial intelligence, score, health bars, power-ups, and much more.

Next, students delve into the world of 3-D computer modeling and animation as they design their own digital 3-D art. Students create a multitude of characters, props, backgrounds and special effects, and make short animated movies using everything they’ve created throughout the week! In addition, the 3-D art that students create will then be incorporated into their video games!

In the music and sound design portion of the course, students create and record their own digital music compositions and sound effects for their video games. Using various sound editing and music sequencing programs, students compose with a wide array of digital instruments at their fingertips, as well as record and manipulate their own voices to create various character expressions, sound effects, or even full narration for their games!

By the end of the week, students will have created a fully working PC game, complete with unique 3-D artwork, and customized sound effects and music tracks! Students receive their games on the last day, along with all their other 3-D and sound work, on a CD to take home and share with family and friends.
