2016-2017 REPORT

The Jewish Teen Board is a part of the JTFN Foundation Board Incubator, funded by Laura Lauder and the Maimonides Fund. Locally supported by the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto and the Koschitzky Centre’s WOW! Initiative.

UJA FEDERATION OVERVIEW:

The Jewish Teen Board of Greater Toronto is a group of teens who work together as a philanthropic board to learn about community needs and grant funds to worthwhile causes. This year, the Jewish Teen Board was comprised of 4 groups each with it’s own mission statement and focus area.

MATAN 1 MATAN 3 Mission Statement: Dedicated to providing Mission Statement: Our mission is to equal opportunities to Jewish youth in the provide Jewish students with access to Greater Toronto Area. Granting funding for educational programming and supporting after-school initiatives to enhance Jewish services that would assist them in life through travel ( and elsewhere) developing a deeper connection with, and that instill leadership and nurture Jewish appreciation for Jewish culture, religion communal commitment. and tradition.

MATAN 2 TZEDEK (SECOND YEAR BOARD) Mission Statement: Our board’s mission is Mission Statement: The Tzedek board is to provide opportunities and resources to looking to support an organization that help, support and care for youth in need in provides long-term impact helping people our community. that are vulnerable or disadvantaged with equity, fulfilling their basic needs. 59 teen participants

GRANT SUMMARY: CONGREGATION SHAAREI-BETH EL $2,044 Trip to New York for Jewish teens from Oakville to learn about the history and Jewish tradition and immigration to ; giving them an opportunity to connect to the larger Jewish community.

TORAH HIGH $2,044 Supported the creation of a scholarship program, called the Jewish Teen Board Scholarship fund, to help students unable to access High programs due to cost.

ZAREINU EDUCATION CENTRE $2,044 Supporting students with special educational needs with appropriate communication devices and individually designed programs to engage them in ongoing interactions with peers both in school, and in the community at large.

JRCC $1,046 JEWISH FREE LOAN $1,000 Supporting a social service delivery which Supported Loan Without Guarantors program in includes free furniture and referrals to appropriate order to allow people who could not secure community resources (such as Kosher food banks). co-signers gain access to interest-free loans.

The Jewish Teen Board would like to express gratitude to all the organizations that submitted applications for funding. Each organization is doing exemplary work in the community and embodies the Jewish value of (repairing the world).
