JOB TITLE: Youth Director – One Year Fixed Term Appointment

LOCATION: United Synagogue

WORKING HOURS: 15 hours per week

SALARY: £10,140 per annum

REPORTS TO: Nominated Honorary Officer

LIAISON WITH: 1. The Rabbi 2. The Synagogue Executive 3. Community Events Director 4. The Synagogue Administrator 5. Tribe

SCOPE OF JOB:

Our team of Tribe Youth Workers across our communities are there to assist the almost 13,000 Tribe members to connect with the Jewish community and all the developments in Tribe.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

 To build upon and develop youth programmes to engage young people in Muswell Hill Synagogue communal life  To inspire and enhance young members’ connections with vibrant, authentic Jewish experiences  To work with 6th form Madrichim (Youth Leaders) to deliver appropriate programming for school years 3-13  To liaise with other youth workers and with Tribe to deliver exciting and engaging programmes for young people in Muswell Hill shul

OVERALL ETHOS:

 To enthuse and encourage children and young people (school years 3-13) to get involved in Synagogue life, both religious and social/cultural  To promote Muswell Hill Synagogue as a great place for children and young people to be  To continue to build a strong infrastructure for children and youth for future development  To promote the importance of having engaged youth and children population who feel ‘at home’ in the Synagogue space and community

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

During the Week: (Note – these activities could be in person or online depending on latest government guidelines in September 2020)  R-Club: Social club for Years 7 & 8. Run alongside Youth Leaders from Year 12 & 13  Boxercise Club: Year 8-11. Co-ordinate with external partner  Mentoring Programme: Co-ordinate alongside parent volunteers  Speaker on the Hill: Youth Edition: Plan and deliver a speaker programme for Years 9–13  3-6: Co-ordinate with Rosh of Bnei Akiva to deliver social and fun activities for Years 3-6  Youth Leader Training: Train and develop the Sixth Form Youth Leaders

Shabbat & Festivals:  Occasional and Friday Night programmes  Support Children’s Services through a close relationship with Children’s Service Committee  Programmes on Jewish Festivals including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Simchat , Chanukah, and Shavuot

Communications:  Communicate with parents and key partners to deliver all programmes and events  Publicise programmes through email and online

Organisation:  Regular meetings with your Line Manager, the Rabbi and Synagogue Council to report on Youth Provision  Plan Yearly, Termly and Monthly Calendars  Attend three monthly reviews with the Line Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION The person to be appointed to this post should able to demonstrate the following:

A. Proven experience in youth work and running programmes B. Ability to motivate affiliated and non-affiliated youth C. Knowledge of Jewish customs and practices D. Open-minded, approachable, empathetic, friendly and outgoing E. Ability to inspire and enthuse F. Self-motivated and to work on own initiative G. Creative and innovative H. Flexible I. Good organisational and planning skills J. Good verbal/written communication skills K. Ability to work as part of a team L. Proven experience as a proactive team member contributing to the success of the wider team and organisational goals

GENERIC DUTIES

 Committed to the aims of the United Synagogue and act as an ambassador for the organisation  Comply with The United Synagogue’s policy and procedures and code of expectations  Bring to the attention of senior staff any health and safety requirements, which become obvious.
