Travel recommendations for car drivers

You can reach the Ruhr‐Universität and the LSI via the motorway junction Bochum/ (A43 and A44). Leave the A 43 at the motorway junction (19) Bochum/Witten in direction Bochum‐Querenburg und follow the Universitätsstraße into the direction Ruhr‐University. Leave the Universitätsstraße at the exit "Ruhr‐Universität West". At the roundabout traffic get off at the 4. exit (Max‐Imdahl‐Straße) (= U‐Turn) und follow the road straight ahead (pass the crossing) to get to Schinkelstraße. Turn right into the Laerholzstraße. In about 600 meters you find the LSI on your right hand side. Parking facilities are available right behind the building.

Travel recommendations for rail passengers and public transport

Bochum Central Station is served by ICE, IC, EC, regional and suburban trains at a high frequency. From there, you can take the underground line U35 or the bus (line 356).

The U35 (direction Bochum Hustadt) runs at five‐minute intervals on weekdays. The ride takes about ten minutes (starting from platform 4). Make sure to get off at the station “Ruhr‐University”. From here you have to change into the bus line 372 (direction Wiemel‐ hausen – Alte Markstraße/ – Langendreer Nord). Please get off at the bus stop "Auf der Papenburg". The LSI is located near the bus stop.

Alternatively you can take the bus line 356 directly from the central railway station Bochum. Bus service runs every 60 minutes (starting from the central bus station outside in front of the railway station, platform 6). Please get off at the bus stop "Auf der Papenburg". You find the LSI near the bus stop.

Alternatively you could get a taxi from Bochum central station (distance 7 km = about 14 €)

Travel recommendations for long‐distance and air travellers

Four airports ‐ , Münster/Osnabrück, / and Düsseldorf ‐ are within a reasonable distance of the Ruhr‐University Bochum. Dusseldorf Airport, however, is not only the largest, but also the most easily accessed: there are direct connections between the airport and Bochum's main railway station up to eight times per hour, and the journey only takes about half an hour.
