Statement of Intent

Berlin, 8 March 2017

To whom it may concern,

I herewith declare my intention to become a member of the AKSE council for contributing to the sound maintenance and productive development of the AKSE during my incumbency, if I will be elected. My motivation for the candidacy is as follows. First, I have been part of the Korean Studies community since my days as a student in the mid-1990s, however, until now I haven’t had the opportunity to serve in an office of a respective representational organization of the community such as AKSE. AKSE is a very important organization for the Korean Studies community so that I am highly motivated to be part of this meaningful endeavor. Second, through my council membership as a young scholar the interests and ideas of the younger generation of Korean Studies scholars in will be continuously represented in a way that it serves all members of AKSE. Third, I believe that based on my knowledge and experience in Korean Studies in particular but also in academia in general I will be able to contributing to the sound maintenance and productive development of AKSE. I can say that I am well connected to networks in Korean academia due to the fact that I earned my PhD at the Department of Political Science of Seoul National and due to my activities in the realm of my university’s prime network with five distinguished in South Korea. Finally, I am convinced that with my main field of research and expertise – socio-scientific approach to modern Korea – I can contribute to the diversity of research areas represented in AKSE. Against this background, I am quite keen to become an AKSE council member, and to be helpful for maintaining the important work of the association as well as hopefully further strengthening its position in the international academic community.

Thank you very much for your consideration!

Yours sincerely,

Hannes B. Mosler Assistant Professor Institute of Korean Studies Graduate School of East Asian Studies Freie Universität Berlin
