Reporting directly to the University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Providing support and assistance to the Provost in all functions of the academic affairs (AA) office. Provided leadership in implementing the university’s mission, vision, strategic goals related to academic excellence, faculty and staff diversity, new academic programs, development and support of faculty scholarship and teaching, expanding use of technology to enhance student learning, development and assessment of program goals and objectives. Worked to increase outreach and recruitment within region, with specific emphasis on underserved populations of the state. Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL College of Education, Office of the Dean, Associate Professor/Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2007- 2009). Worked in coordination with the Dean of the College, and also supervised the Chairpersons of the College Departments. The College of Education had 65 full-time faculty members, and 23 administrative and support staffers, plus over 40 adjunct faculty annually. Responsibility also included coordinating the administrative and academic functions of the College and all committees. Academic functions included oversight of curricula in all programs, the development of new programs and areas of specialization, class scheduling & enrollment management, academic petitions & grade appeals, course/teaching observations & evaluations, and intra- University relationships with the Registrar, Admissions (both undergraduate and graduate) and Financial Aid Offices. Administrative functions included oversight regarding faculty Assignment of Responsibilities (AOR), inventory and space, and strategic planning. Encouraged intradepartmental cooperation, and served as Co- Director of TNE (Teacher’s for a New Era) Grant, a 7 million dollar project funded by the Carnegie Foundation (2003-2009). Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, diplomacy and use of conflict resolution skills were exhibited daily. The Florida A & M University, College of Education, Tallahassee, FL Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation Associate Professor and Department Chairperson, (2003- 2007) Tenure (Granted); Graduate Faculty Appointment & Doctoral Directive Status (approved) As the Chair of the HPER Department, I reported to the Dean of the College of Education. Responsibilities included working collaboratively with fellow administrators and faculty to insure the educational programs were administered in accordance with the State of Florida’s Department of Education (DOE) educational policies and FAMU’s institutional standards. This included having led the program though a successful NCATE reaccreditation and Florida’s DOE Program Approval without any difficulties. This unit develops future certified teacher education professionals, in addition to graduate students in sport management. Daily there were demonstrations of skill, experience and expertise in managing a complex academic unit within the university organization, with outstanding ability to analyze, plan, organize, challenge and lead. The record of securing broad range involvement of faculty, academic departments and other student service administrators in various endeavors was strong. I provided institutional leadership in the early planning, development & construction of $43 million Multipurpose Center Teaching Gymnasium. This PICO funded facility included a $5.2 million FF&E budget and it opened 4/8/09. I had superior knowledge of various issues, trends, initiatives, policies and practices of higher education, including but not limited to curriculum development, athletics, study abroad, international students, academic achievement, scholarship, and advisement. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, along with tact, diplomacy, and conflict resolution and mediation skills, while having the ability to manage crisis situations. I provided data and support for SACS institutional/internal team.

Service included major professor for over 250 (M.Ed. and M.S.) graduate students with most working today in college athletic programs. PHED 001. Water Safety Instruction. 3 cr. Water Safety Instruction (WSI) is an American Red Cross course specifically designed to certify individuals 17 years of age and older as American Red Cross swimming instructors.

PHED 002. Beginning Swimming. 1 cr. Designed to teach individuals to swim, including such basic skills to make them safe in deep water as floating in a prone position as well as supine position, breath control, and rhythmic breathing.

PHED 003. Advanced Beginning Swimming. 1 cr. Increase the skill of the individual by adding to skills learned in the beginner’s course and prepares the student for additional water safety training by introducing skills that improve stamina and basic coordination.

PHED 004. Intermediate Swimming. 1 cr. Provides the students the opportunity to learn the elements of good swimming.

PHED 005. Swimmers. 1 cr. Increases the student’s endurance and versatility in the water providing opportunities to coordinate the parts of a stoke into whole parts.

PHED 006. Life Guarding. 1 cr. Teaches the necessary skills to enable the students to save a little in case of a water accident. Distance swimming for developing strength and endurance is practice, and the theory of water safety is studied. Practice is mandatory.

PHED 144. Sports Law. 3 crs. Sport Law provides legal issues and information that is often encountered in sport and physical activity. This course will provide fundamental legal elements, court cases, and awareness of the rights of sport and physical activity as it relates to participants, spectators, managers, and teachers. Further insight of other sport and physical activity issues and their relationship to sport law will be discussed.

PHED 145. Sports Marketing. 3 crs. This course provides an understanding of sports and the marketing of events and products, and creates a moral practice and standard when targeting a product or population. Theory identification and practical involvement will be merged to enhance the experience and opportunity to contribute into the multi-billion dollars sports industry.

PHED 146. Ethical Issues in Sports. 3 crs. This course promotes critical self-evaluation, examines individual philosophy, clarifies values, and develops moral reasoning skills. Major moral and ethical issues that arise within sports and exercise environments will be studied.

PHED 147. Sports and Media. 3 crs. Introduction to theory and practice of media forums and their relationship to the sports industry. Designed to give students an operational and technical foundation in research, print, broadcasting and the impact of advertising and sales on production of a sports event. Guest lecturers from professional media entities, and opportunity for hands-on experience.

PHED 149. Facility Planning and Design. 3 crs. Course addresses the fundamentals of planning and design, emphasizing athletic, physical education, and recreation facilities in both rural and urban settings. Field trips and current trends in facility design and scheduling will also be explored.

PHED 112. First Aid & CPR (Cardiovascular Resuscitation). 1cr. The general purpose of the first aid training provided by the content of the Standard First Aid course and the CPR course is to teach the knowledge and skills that are needed for the emergency care of the injured until a physician arrives and to create an active interest in the prevention of accidents through the elimination of their causes.

Race and Ethnicity in Sport (3). This course examines the unique role and impact racism and ethnicity have had in the world of sport. Teachers and coaches of all levels of sport organizations are introduced to the realities of bias and prejudice within sport. The experiences of numerous ethnic minority groups and their challenges to participate, compete, coach, manage, lead and own sport organizations in the United States also are examined. PET 4461. Event and Special Projects (3). Promotion in Sport. Topics and issues involved in the promotions and marketing of sporting events. An examination of the evolution of large scale corporate marketing strategies. PET 4499. Sport Governance (3). Topics and issues discussed involve the organizational theory, behavior and structure of various sport organizations. The evolution of power and political activity engulfing sport organizations is examined. Concepts on leadership and management related to the sport industry are presented. An outside project enhances the student's understanding of a selected sport organization and its event. PET 4942r. Practicum in Sport Administration (3). For sport management students only. Practical experience is integrated with theoretical concepts in the sport management environment. May be repeated to a maximum of six (6) semester hours.

PET 5252. Gender Issues in Sport and Physical Activity (3). Post-structural and feminist theory are used to critically examine the commonplace notions surrounding gender and sport.

PET 5258. Race and Ethnicity in Sport (3). This course examines the role and impact that ethnicity and racism have had in the world of sport; it also seeks to develop an understanding and appreciation for diversity in sport. Students and future teachers are introduced to the realities of bias and prejudice that exist and perpetuate within sport. The varied experiences of numerous ethnic minority groups in the United States are examined.

PET 5295. Sport and the Media (3). This course examines the unique role and impact of the media on the sport industry. Identification of the grand spectrum of activities and mediums comprising the media is explored. The ever-growing role of the print, radio and television broadcast, and the internet are investigated. This course also orients students to the academic and professional literature accessible in the field of sport management. Experienced practitioners are invited as guest lecturers to enhance assigned textbook and journal readings..

PET 5467. NCAA Compliance and Institutional Control (3). Prerequisite: PET 5476. Course prepares students for current NCAA rules, policies, enforcement procedures and compliance strategies.

PET 5470. Foundations in Sport Administration (3). This course will examine the role and impact of the sport industry and help students identify activities and opportunities in sport management, as well as orient new graduate students to the academic and professional field of sport management.

PET 5476. Athletic Administration (3). Designed to provide information regarding the various components and activities in the organization and administration of athletic programs for prospective athletic administrators.

PET 5478. Issues in Sport Law (3). An integration of the various areas involved within sport pertaining to the legal liability of coaching, facility management and risk management.
