Components Keynote Lecture Dina A. Griffin, AIA, NOMA (President at Interactive Design, Inc. Architects) will provide a Friday afternoon lecture. Information about her and the firm is online. http://www.idea8.com/site/ http://idea8.com/site/about-us/people/dina-griffin/ The 4:00 PM schedule is the latest start time we can use on a Friday and still expect significant FAMU SOA student attendance. We assume that the Howard/ Morgan State or the Hampton bus will get in around 2:30. Dina Griffin will probably depart Saturday afternoon.

Dinner w/ Lecture Guest The FAMU SOA Faculty will make dinner reservations at a local restaurant for the keynote speaker and 10 -15 interested visiting guests. We will ask each guest to pay for their own dinner.

Student Evening The (APX) Student Organization will meet with the visiting students in the SOA South Atrium bleachers to determine their Friday evening schedule. The visiting students will be told to review their plans their faculty chaperones.

HBCU Deans’ Welcome Each of the HBCU programs will provide a brief 3 minute introduction of their program. We will try to use Blackboard’s Collaborate (Illuminate) so that the Deans can provide the introduction. The faculty (in attendance) should be ready to present, in case their Dean has audio/ video problems. We will test their communication at least a week before the event. We will webcast their image and voice, but we would prefer to play any related PowerPoint content from the local desktop.

Current Work All of the HBCU students, regardless of their academic level, will have the opportunity for a 45 second “PechaKucha” presentation of a project. Each School will compile their student presentations into a SINGLE FILE. PowerPoint file format information will be developed at a later date. In general, keep it simple. The file must be submitted by Friday night so that we can put them on the hard drive and test the file.

Lunch The FAMU School of Architecture Lunch will provide lunch for all attendees.

Panel Discussion I A panel will address the increased concern that architecture graduates are not taking the ARE Exam and becoming licensed during the “Why should I pursue licensure?” session. The guests will address the question from three perspectives – private sector, public sector and academia.

Collaboration Workshops A series of concurrent 15 minute “how to” workshops will be provided by students and demonstrate the potential for collaboration across schools. At lest one student from each program will provide a session. The sessions may be webcast. Over the next few weeks, FAMU students will identify a list of topics that interest them. The list will be provided to the faculty contacts. The contacts will identify a student, forward FAMU the topic, forward the student’s name and contact info and review the student presentation prior to the event.

Panel Discussion II A panel will reflect on the value of the 2012 HBCU Forum, ideas for future discussions and provide closing comments.

Accommodations A block of rooms have been reserved as the Marriott Courtyard Hotel on Apalachee Parkway (800-321-2211). The reduced rate of $89/ night, provides a King bed, pull out sofa and permits up to four students in each room.
