The first year of law school can be challenging. Established in 2005, Eversheds Sutherland Scholars is an intensive three-week, 40-hour summer program for recent college graduates headed to law school and rising college seniors from historically black colleges and universities. The program is an initiative to help ensure the success of diverse students in law school. Learn more at www.esscholars.com.
Student participants come from 10 colleges around the Southeast: • Clark Atlanta University • Hampton University 10 • Dillard University • Howard University • Georgia Institute of Technology • Loyola University New Orleans • Georgia State University • Morehouse College • George Washington University • Spelman College
Almost all (95%) of participants have been accepted into law schools. The Eversheds Sutherland Scholars program is offered in our Atlanta and Overview of the Law School Washington DC offices. The first of its kind, our program has served as a model Curriculum and inspiration for other programs throughout the country. The program engages a professor to teach introductory courses in Contracts Basic Factors for Success in and Torts. In addition, students are exposed to roundtable discussions led by Law School Eversheds Sutherland attorneys and other legal professionals who practice law in a wide range of disciplines. Some of our guest speakers have included How to Brief a Case Deputy General Counsel from Fortune 500 companies, the Chief of the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, the Assistant How to Form an Effective Study Group Chief Counsel of the US Department of Homeland Security and a presiding Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court.
