Map of – Main Campus

Welcome to the Political Economy of International Organizations Conference! This letter is to provide you with logistical information for your planning purposes.

Location and Georgetown University Contact Information

Georgetown University is located at 37th and O Streets, NW, Washington, DC 20057.

Most discussions and activities will take place in the Rafik B. Hariri building (#80 on the map) all throughout the length of the conference. Registration, breakfast and the morning session will be on the 4th floor of the Hariri Building on January 28th. Look for direction signs from the main gate of the University (37th and O Streets). Lunches will be served at the Faculty Club in the Leavey Center adjacent to the Hariri Building (#22). The afternoon panel discussion on January 28 will be held in the Mortara Center (1248 36th Street, #72) a short walk from main campus. You will need to walk back a block to the Intercultural Center Galleria (#27) for the poster sessions. The ICC building is accessible from the Red Square (so named by the red bricks the square is covered with).

Panel discussions on January 29-30th will be held in the Hariri Building in rooms 250 and 340. The Hariri building is best accessible from the Leavey Center via the glass doors opposite the Faculty Club.

The dinner on January 29th will be held at the Riggs Library, in the Healy building. This building is one of the oldest on campus and the Riggs Library occupies the tower of Georgetown’s signature building on the 3rd floor. There will be signs for you to help you find your way up there.

If you are staying at the Marriott Hotel on campus, you are already at the Leavey Center, so just trace your steps back towards the Faculty Club to access the Hariri building.

If you are staying in an off campus hotel, you can either walk or take a cab. Renting a car is not recommended since parking is limited and parking restrictions on the street are strictly enforced. But if you are parking there is an underground parking garage at the Southwest Quadrangle (#41) (additional parking options are listed on page 3). From there, the Hariri building is accessible via it’s main entrance which is located next to the football field.

(A more interactive map is accessible from http://maps.georgetown.edu/index.cfm)

Cell phones, Blackberries In order to gain the full benefits from the program, no cell phones or Blackberries should be turned on during the conference. You will have the opportunity to check messages on breaks if needed.

WIFI Access You can log into the University’s WIFI system free of charge at all conference locations. If your computer or device does not automatically recognize the network, please use HOYAS as the network name. There are no passwords required to log on to the WIFI system.

There are some outlets for charging your laptop in the conference room on Thursday, but not at every chair. Please make sure you fully charge your battery before hand if you are planning to use your laptop for note taking. For Friday and Saturday, there is an outlet at every chair in the classrooms.

Parking and Getting Around Georgetown A set of FAQs is enclosed in this packet about getting around Georgetown, including directions from airports, using Metro, getting around campus, parking, restaurants, etc. Of special note is that parking is extremely limited in Georgetown. The best options for parking are:

• On campus visitor parking at the Southwest Quadrangle (accessible from Canal Road) and at the Leavey Center parking garage (accessible from Reservoir Road). • There is a public parking garage on Bank Street, located between M St and Prospect St., 2 blocks from the main gate. • On Prospect Street, close to , there is an indoor lot near Morton’s and Café Milano restaurants.

If you plan to drive, be sure to leave plenty of time for rush hour traffic and finding a parking spot, as getting across the Key Bridge and driving through Georgetown can be quite congested. Please note that the entrance to the Key Bridge from George Washington Parkway is closed on weekdays starting at 7:30 am.

Public Transportation The closest Metro stops to Georgetown are Rosslyn, directly across the Key Bridge and Dupont Circle.

The G-2 Metrobus runs from Dupont Circle, directly to the main gates of Campus at 37th and O Streets NW. On the bus’s return journey, there is a stop right in front of the Car Barn on Prospect St.

The Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) operates five shuttle routes, connecting the campus to the Georgetown University Law Center in Downtown DC; to University offices on Wisconsin Avenue; to Metro stations at Rosslyn (Virginia) and Dupont Circle (District of Columbia); and to stops in North Arlington, Virginia. Persons without a University ID, but who are proceeding to the campus, are allowed to board the bus after paying a fare of $1.00. GUTS buses depart and arrive at the Leavey Center, in the heart of Georgetown University’s campus (see map).

Dress Dress is casual and comfortable. Georgetown sidewalks are uneven with brick and cobblestone in places so comfortable shoes are recommended.
