 To provide Japanese gaming developers with an opportunity to meet with overseas game publishers (buyers) and find new in overseas markets.  To provide overseas game publishers (buyers) with an opportunity to identify prominent Japanese games that can differentiate their offering from others.  To deliver to Japanese game developers insights of overseas game markets.

(3) Invitation Guidelines

Key steps: 1. JETRO selects publishers to invite from around the globe. 2. JETRO publicly recruits Japanese developers, revealing names of invited publishers. 3. JETRO arranges meetings and notifies publishers.

JETRO invites a publisher that:  Has a strong desire to distribute Japanese games in overseas markets.  Has an established business in overseas game markets.

Requirements of Invitees:  An invitee must have authority to select and make procurement decisions. Travel Conditions (subject to change):

 JETRO covers the following cost for 1 person per company: Airfare, transportation in Japan (within JETRO rules), accommodation (within JETRO rules), and 1 interpreter for meetings (if needed).  Additional participant(s) is negotiable, but the cost has to be at his/her own expense.  An invitee is asked to follow the set schedules (travel dates) and agenda (business meetings and a seminar).

(4) Business Matching by JOGA

Japan Association (JOGA) will organize a business meeting event in collaboration with JETRO. JETRO’s invited publishers will have opportunities to meet with JOGA member companies.

About JOGA:  Japan Online Game Association (JOGA) is a Japanese game networking organization based in Tokyo. Their members consist of online game publishers, developers of PC and games, and Japanese affiliates of leading foreign game companies.  JOGA: http://www.japanonlinegame.org/english/

(5) Business Matching by JETRO

 The JAPAN/JETRO BOOTH will be set at a quiet Business Meeting Area.  JETRO’s organized section will be publicly introduced at the event . Find the past booth information at: o http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/tgs/2012/en/business/intl.html o http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/tgs/2011/en/business/intl.html  Each invited publisher will be given a dedicated booth to conduct a series of business meetings.  Recruitment of Japanese companies will start AFTER all invited buyers are finalized. This means the Japanese companies will apply for business matching with specific interests in your company.  JETRO sends an invitation to companies that may include Tokyo Game Show exhibitors, JETRO’s past participants, a game association’s members, etc.  All meetings are pre-arranged. One meeting will run for 30-45 minutes (tentative).  Language: English (An interpreter will be arranged per company.)  A list of participating Japanese companies will be finalized at the end of August.

(6) Seminar at Tokyo Game Show

An invitee is asked to be one of the speakers at a JETRO-organized seminar held at Tokyo Game Show.

Objectives:  To deliver to Japanese game developers insights of overseas game market trends and business models.  To demonstrate your interests in Japanese games and growing business opportunities for Japanese games.

(7) Required Information for Application

During the nomination process of JETRO’s invitation program, a candidate will be asked to provide the following information (subject to change):

 An applicant’s personal information (name, company, title, company address, email, etc.)  An applicant’s job descriptions, history, purchase decision-making authority, etc.  Availability of a seminar as a lecturer  Business details of an applicant’s company (business type, activities, game platforms, volume, target customers, key business partners)  An applicant’s interest in Japanese games (specific titles)  An applicant’s participation in past events in Japan and overseas

II. JETRO SUPPORTS INTERNATIONALIZATION OF JAPANESE GAME INDUSTRY

Japanese government policy under the brand “Cool Japan”:  To promote the export of Japanese including the gaming industry.  To support Japanese gaming companies to set up an office overseas.

JETRO recruits foreign game publishers who:  Are seriously considering of Japanese games.  Have an established business in overseas markets.

JETRO proactively arrange meetings between foreign game publishers and Japanese gaming developers who want to expand their business into overseas markets through game events such as:  Game Connection America: business matching (since 2008)  Tokyo Game Show: business matching by inviting overseas publishers (since 2011)  Casual Connect : business matching (2011 & 2012 only)
