Thursday,Dec. 15—Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie Dance lesson: 7 pm; Music: 8–11 pm Geno’s back! It’s been too long. To this day, Geno still performs in many of the same dance halls and churches that he visited as a child in his father’s group. Performing a rigorous one hundred fifty shows each year has left the band in a rigid state of exactness. He fuses his Creole roots and modern voice through his multi-ac- cordion attack. Geno plays the single-row and triple-row diatonic button for more traditional “French style” tunes and changes to for pounding out contemporary Zydeco. Admission $18/$15/$10. Kate Charles 1950–2005 Kate Charles, a popular contra and square dance caller, former BFMS board member, and teacher at the Waldorf School of Baltimore, died November 6th after a long decline from early- onset Alzheimer’s disease. Kate danced with Ring o’ Bells in the late 70s before she moved to Baltimore in 1980. Throughout her illness, she enjoyed the support of friends from BFMS, the Waldorf School, and the larger folk community. During the last few years, when she lived in assisted living, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer organized monthly music parties for her, enabling Kate to stay in touch with the music she so enjoyed and making it easier for friends to stay in touch with her. She last appeared in public on October 1 at the Kate Charles Tribute Concert. Friends are planning a fitting celebration of her life, with music and dance in January. Look for further details next month.
