1 What We’re Reading

Global Sensor Market to Reach $154.4 Billion in 2020 BCC Research 7/28/2014 BCC Research forecasts that the global market for sensors and related technologies is expected to grow to nearly $154.4 billion by 2020, with a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.1%. The image, flow, and level sensors segment is increasing by an even faster 11.7% CAGR to reach nearly $50.2 billion by 2020. Image sensors will experience the highest growth in this segment driven by increased use in smartphones and other portable devices. Read the full article here.

Reshoring, Robots and the New Factory Floor Modern Machine Shop 7/29/2014 For three straight years, the U.S. has set new records in the number and value of robots sold. This surge can be traced to a convergence of issues: the need to reduce labor input to increase competitiveness; a growing tide of work returning to U.S. shores; and that returning work not having a commensurate level of required work force. The North American robotics market recorded its best year ever in 2013, delivering 22,591 robots valued at $1.39 billion, according to the Robotics Industries Association (RIA). Flow Meters Market Estimated to Reach $7.9 Billion by 2019 Markets and Markets 7/28/2014 The flow meters market will grow from an estimated $5.3 billion in 2013 to $7.9 billion by 2019. North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific remained the largest global flow meter markets accounting for over 84.1% of the market in 2013. The Asia-Pacific market continues to be the key growth area due to new investment backed by increasing demand for innovative technology for flow meters from different end-user industries. The U.S. is currently the leading consumer of global flow meters and is projected to grow at a CAGR much lower than the global average until 2019. Read the full article here.

The Revival of Environmental Instrumentation Laboratory Equipment 7/7/2014 The analytical spectroscopy marketplace continues to see an accelerating pace of technological enhancements with environmental applications as beneficiaries. The recent development of higher performance instruments and new methodologies allows for the measurement of environmental contaminants that were once unmeasurable. As a result, the atomic spectroscopy market is growing faster than the standard laboratory instrumentation market. The global market is currently growing at a CAGR of 6.4% and is expected to reach $5.5 billion by 2018. Read the full article here.

Workforce, Competitive Pressures Push Services Growth Automation World 8/15/2014 Automation services are expected to see more than 50% growth over a seven year period as process industries look to solution providers for help outside their core competencies. This growth is being spurred by a decline in skilled workforce and competitive pressures. Manufacturers are turning to automation companies for operation and maintenance services to avoid costly downtime, optimize production, and mitigate risks. End users will accept automation solution providers, in particular, as reliable service partners in the long term as they seek more comprehensive single-window services.
