KOL HANESHAMA, :6

It has been said: “You shall keep the flame burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.”

In this spirit we keep alive within us the flame of faith. And in this spirit we kindle the lights of Shabbat and Yom Tov. .shel Shabbat v’shel Yom Tov

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the universe, who hallows us with mitzvot, commanding us to kindle the lights of Shabbat and Yom Tov.

This is the season of freedom: Of freedom from the will of tyrants, Of freedom from the bondage of self, To become a nation and a people.

This is the season of release: Of release from captivity and oppression, Of release from a foreign land, To receive G-d’s Holy Word. This is the season of redemption: Of redeeming our bodies and souls, Of redeeming our strength and power, In service to Am Yisroel.

This is the season of freedom: Of reliving the ancient journey, Of remembering the treacherous path. This is the season that calls us to stand together, The season that summons us to G-d’s Law, The season that leads us home.

O Eternal our God, how glorious You are in all the earth! When we see the heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, the golden sun and the cool grass, the brilliant flowers, and the freshness of flowing streams, we give thanks to You, Maker of all things, Creator of goodness and beauty.

Baruch atah, Adonai, hamaariv aravim.

Standing on the parted shores of history we still believe what we were taught before ever we stood at Sinai’s foot: That wherever we go, it is eternally Egypt; that there is a better place, a Promised land; that the winding way to that promise passes through the wilderness; That there is no way to get from here to there except by joining hands, marching together.

You are forever mighty, Adonai; You give life to all. You cause the wind to shift and rain to fall. You sustain life through love, giving life to all through great compassion, supporting the fallen, healing the sick, freeing the captive, keeping faith with those who sleep in the dust. Who is like You, Source of mighty acts? Who resembles You, a Sovereign who takes and gives life, causing deliverance to spring up and faithfully giving life to all. Blessed are You, Adonai, who gives life to all. Baruch atah, Adonai, m’chayei hakol.

Everpresent One, may we, Your people Israel, be worthy in our deeds and our prayer. Wherever we live, wherever we seek You – in this land, in the land of Israel, in all lands – You are our God, whom alone we serve in reverence.

Baruch atah, Adonai, sh-ot’cha l’vad’cha b’yirah naavod. God of goodness, we give thanks for the gift of life, wonder beyond words; for the awareness of soul, our light within; for the world around us, so filled with beauty; for the richness of the earth, which day by day sustains us; for all these and more, we offer thanks. Baruch atah, Adonai, hatov shimcha ul’cha na-eh l’hodot.

Baruch atah Adonai, hamevarech et amo Yisrael bashalom.

Praised is the Eternal, who blesses the people Israel with peace.

We offer prayers of healing for…

COUNTING OF THE OMER

The time will come when all shall turn with trust to God, hearkening to God’s voice, bearing witness to God’s truth. We pray with all our hearts: let violence be gone; let the day come soon when evil shall give way to goodness, when war shall be forgotten, hunger be no more, and all at last shall live in freedom. O Source of life: may we, created in Your image, embrace one another in friendship and in joy. Then shall we be one family, and then shall Your kingdom be established on earth, and the word of Your prophet fulfilled: “The Lord will reign for ever and ever.”
