Music to Soothe the Soul Psalm 150 (Excerpts from Psalm Enchanted Evening concert, June 2, 2019) 1. Kol Haneshama (Anonymous Baroque setting composed for the Spanish-Portuguese Syna- gogue in Amsterdam, ca. 1675); Marc Molomot, Tenor / Joyce Rosenzweig, Piano 2. Hallelu–Kol Haneshama (Adapted from a Sufi chant by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948-1997); Judy Ribnick, Clarinet / The CBST Chorus / Joyce Rosenzweig, Piano This week, we would like to share two contrasting interpretations of what is probably one of the most well-known of all psalms. Psalm 150 (the last of the 150 psalms) is an ecstatic exclamation of praise to God, celebrating all the musical instruments from the Temple Orchestra that would ele- vate these sacred words with melody, harmony and exultation. The Psalm ends with the words, Kol han’shamah t’halel Yah! (Let all that has breath sing Your praises!) May each of us become an in- strument for praising God, through the beauty of our own unique melodies! 1 MAY 15, 2020 / 22 IYAR 5780 PARASHAT BEHAR-BECHUKOTAI הֲ כָ נַת הַ לֵּ ב OPENING PRAYERS AND MEDITATIONS Candle Blessing Abraham Wolf Binder (1895- הַ דְ לָ קַ ת נֵ רוֹת שֶׁ ל שַׁ בָּ ת 38 1967) (Shalom Aleichem Israel Goldfarb (1879-1956 שָׁ לוֹם ﬠֲלֵיכֶם 40 קַ בָּ לַ ת שַׁ בָּ ת KABBALAT SHABBAT/WELCOMING SHABBAT *L’chu N’ran’nah (Psalm 95) Chabad Chasidim לְ כוּ נְ רַ נְּ נָ ה (תהלים צה) 52 *Zamru Ladonai (Psalm 98) Suki Berry זַמְּ רוּ לַה' (תהלים צח) 58 Mizmor L’David (Psalm 29) Shlomo Carlebach (1926- מִ זְמוֹר לְדָוִ ד (תהלים 62 *(1994 כט) *L'chah Dodi (Shlomo Alkabetz) Abayudaya Ugandan לְכָה דוֹדִי 66 Chasidic* Prayer for Healers תְּ ִ פ ָלּ ה ִ ל רְ פ וּ ָ א ה Mizmor Shir (Psalm 92) Daphna Rosenberg (Born מִ זְמוֹר שִׁ יר (תהלים צב) 72 1967) ַ מ ֲﬠ רִ י ב MA’ARIV/THE EVENING SERVICE Bar’chu Nusach ָ בּ רְ כ וּ 78 Hama’ariv Aravim Nusach הַמַּ ﬠֲרִ יב ﬠֲרָ בִ ים 80 *(Ahavat Olam Eric Mandell (1903-1988 אַ הֲבַ ת עוֹלָ ם 86 (Sh’ma Yisrael Salomon Sulzer (1804-1890 שְׁ מַע יִשְׂ רָ אֵל 88 (V’ahavta Torah Cantillation (Trope וְ אָ הַבְ תָּ 89 Mi Chamochah Hanna Tiferet Siegel (Born מִ י כָ מֹֽ כָ ה 94 1948)* *Hashkiveinu Modzitz Chasidim ַ ה שְׁ כִּ י בֵ ֽ נ וּ 98 *V’shamru South African Melody וְ שָׁ מְ ר וּ 102 Chatzi Kaddish Nusach ֲח צִ י קַ דִּ י שׁ 104 Silent Amidah ֲﬠ מִ י דָ ה 106 (Yih’yu L’ratson/Oseh Shalom Bonia Shur (Born 1923 יִ הְ יוּ לְ רָ צוֹן / עֹ שֶׂ ה שָׁ ל וֹ ם 118 *(Oseh Shalom Michael Ochs (Born 1975 עֹ שֶׂ ה שָׁ ל וֹ ם 118 Mi Shebeirach Debbie Friedman (1951- מִ י שֶׁ ֵ בּ רַ 133 2011)* Prayer for Our Country תְּ פִ לָּה לַמְּ דִ ינָה Program Kaddish Shalem Nusach קַ דִּ י שׁ שָׁ ֵל ם 138 דְּ רָ שָׁ ה: DRASHAH: RABBI SHARON KLEINBAUM (Aleinu Salomon Sulzer (1804-1890 ﬠָ לֵ ֽ י נ וּ 140 Counting of the Omer סְ פִ ירַ ת הָעוֹמֶר 228 Mourner’s Kaddish קַ דִּ י שׁ ָי ת וֹ ם 150 2 Announcements: CBST President Gregg Passin *(Ruach Elohim Lisa Levine (Born 1961 ר וּ חַ אֶ - הִ י ם 133 Kiddush & Motzi קִ ידּוּש & הַמּוֹצִ יא 156 Ki Eshm’ra Shabbat Sephardic Shabbat Melody כִּי אשְׁ מְ רָ ה שַׁבָּת Postlude *Arranged by Joyce Rosenzweig 3 This Week’s Shabbat Services Friday, May 15 / 22 Iyyar Saturday, May 16 / 22 Iyyar Kabbalat Shabbat, 6:30 pm Shabbat Morning–Traditional Egalitarian Ba’al Tefillah: Cantorial Intern Minyan, 10 am - David Fair Ba’alei Tefillah: Cantorial Intern David Music Director Piano: Fair, Larry Kay Joyce Rosenzweig D’var Torah: Cooperberg-Rittmaster Rab- Service Leader & Drashah: binical Intern Deborah Megdal Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum RSVP here to be sent the Zoom link Families with Children Visit CBST's main Facebook page--you • Limmud b’Shabbat (K-8): 10 am; will find the livestream of the Shabbat See teacher email for Zoom link. service at/near the top of the page.
