Psalm 63
Hear my voice, O God, as I complain, Guards my life from dread of the foe. Hide me from the band of the wicked, from the throng of those who do evil.

If we have died with Christ, we believe that we are also to live with him. We know that Christ, once raised from the dead, will never die again; death has no more power over him. Christ was given up for our sins and rose again to make us righteous. Let us cry out to him, saying: Save us, Lord, by your victory. Christ our Savior, in conquering death you brought us joy, in rising again you raised us up and filled us with the abundance of your gifts, - stir up our hearts, and sanctify this day through the gift of your Holy Spirit. Save us, Lord, by your victory. You are glorified by the angels in heaven and adored by mankind on earth; as we celebrate your resurrection, - accept our worship in spirit and in truth. Notes and commentary
Lauds has always been one of the liturgical pillars of the day, along with Vespers. Prayer at morning and evening is older than Christianity itself. In the Roman Rite, eight chant modes developed. The psalm tones we will be using this week are written in these eight modes especially for use with the English language by the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey.
Three of the canonical hours feature canticles from the Gospel of Luke every day: the Benedictus or Canticle of Zechariah at Lauds, the Magnificat or Canticle of Mary at Vespers, and the Nunc Dimittis or Canticle of Simeon at Compline.
The translation of the Psalms being used this week is often called “Grail I”. The “Revised Grail” is the translation currently in use in the Lectionary.
