I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Kathy Mayer for the work she has done for the region as editor of the regional magazine for the past three years. She continually strived to make it better every edition. She was open to my suggestions and never seemed to be frustrated by them, al- though I’ll bet she was! To go a step further, however, there is value in having a Strategic Plan. The goal of the strategic planning process is to close the gap between “what is” and “what is wanted.” A good plan provides focus and direction and helps determine how resources should be used for maximum results. With that in mind, I would like to share with you the seven initia- tives of Region 21’s Strategic Plan:

1. Ensure that all members have access to education and that education is relevant to the Region’s education needs. 2. Ensure that all members are aware of ac- tivities and opportunities offered within the Region. 3. Create a regional program that encour- ages growth and retention of members in Re-
