HOUSING IN DEFINED VILLAGES (POLICY H/7 v)) SUPPLEMENTARY PLANNING DOCUMENT CONSULTATION DRAFT

STATEMENT OF SPD MATTERS AND NOTICE OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

North Somerset Council has prepared a draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for consultation.

The title of the SPD is ‘Housing in Defined Villages (Policy H/7 v)) Supplementary Planning Document – Consultation Draft’.

The subject matter of the SPD is housing in villages with settlement boundaries. The SPD provides guidance on meeting the requirements of Policy H/7 v) of the Replacement Local Plan, which seeks to ensure that residential development in villages with settlement boundaries does not add to or contribute to creating a dormitory settlement with high levels of out-commuting. If and when adopted, this SPD will form part of the Local Development Framework, which forms the local basis for decisions on land use planning affecting North Somerset.

The area covered by the SPD comprises the following settlements (within the boundaries defined on the Local Plan Proposals Map): Abbots Leigh, Backwell, , Blagdon, , Churchill, Clapton-in-Gordano, Cleeve, , Dundry, Easton-in-Gordano, Failand, Felton, Flax Bourton, Hutton, Kenn, Kewstoke, , Leigh Woods, Locking, Long Ashton, , Portbury, Redhill, Sandford, Tickenham, Uphill, Weston-in-Gordano, , , , and (with Claverham).

The consultation period within which representations about the draft SPD can be made is from Wednesday 3rd March 2010 until Tuesday 13th April 2010 .

The draft SPD and consultation statement are available for public inspection on the North Somerset Council website ( www.consult-ldf.n-somerset.gov.uk ).

Copies are also available for public inspection at the following locations (during normal opening hours):

Representations on the draft SPD must be made in writing and sent by one of the following means:

(a) online at www.consult-ldf.n-somerset.gov.uk

Representations should specify the matters to which they relate and the grounds on which they are made. They may also be accompanied by a request to be notified at a specific address of the withdrawal or adoption of the SPD. North Somerset Council will consider all representations received within the consultation period.
