brunswick town conservation area

With an air of grandeur and an undoubtable architectural beauty, the townhouses of Brunswick Place sit in one of the most highly favoured conservation areas in the city; sweeping down the hill towards the sea. This exceptional two-bedroom apartment has pride of place on the ground floor of a mid-terrace house, where the palatial living room follows the curve of the bow, and it benefits from a beautiful walled garden. This is a delight for the senses in a city environment, and has been as perfectly maintained as the interior. Over the last two years it has been immaculately restored both above and below the glamorous aesthetic by those with a refined eye and taste for interiors; where the Regency period detail and proportions have been blended with contemporary design features. With the boutique shops and cafes of Western Road just minutes away, as well as two commuter stations, and several popular schools; this apartment would suit families and professionals alike, wishing to live in luxury by the sea. the kitchen 2 3 the floor plan

the kitchen 3 why you’ll like it Effortlessly elegant, the Regency townhouses of Brunswick Town have become integral to Brighton and Hove's unique identity as a cosmopolitan city of style and taste, and have been so since Prince Regent took up residence here in the 19th Century. They were the 'brain-child' of eminent architect, Charles Busby, as he hoped to replicate the distinguished Nash developments in London - and the inhabitants were expected to be equally cultured and refined. Understandably, they were suitably impressed by the curved facades with their ornate balconies and columns, and although most of the houses have now been converted into apartments; they still attract many, and Brunswick is still one of the most prestigious addresses in the city. Residing half way up the eastern side of the terrace, this apartment is approached up some wide stone steps, and through a well maintained communal hallway where your door is first on the right. Once inside, the scale of the flat is immediately apparent as the hallway stretches back, through the depth of the building. To the right you enter the magnificent living room where ceilings soar, and two almost full height windows fill the room with light from the west. The floor is light, engineered oak to complement the luminescent white walls, and this classic décor flows throughout the flat for continuity. As was always intended, this is the ideal room for entertaining as it is certainly impressive, and provides ample space for comfortable seating as well as formal dining. Open to the room is the contemporary kitchen, and while this is in complete contrast to the Regency period, the sleek lines and atmospheric lighting only serve to enhance the space, bringing it merrily into the 21st Century. It does not impose in a room of this size, and with dove grey gloss units topped with white Corian it has a luxurious finish. Integrated within these, you find a washing machine, fridge freezer, a dishwasher, a wine fridge and a double oven which has been placed in a tower for easy access. The Electrolux four-ring induction hob has been inlaid below the stylish extractor, and the sink has been carved seamlessly into the stone. Returning to the hallway, the master bedroom is peacefully positioned, looking out towards the garden through a beautiful window; still decorated with the original leading in a simple floral motif. Bespoke wardrobes have been built into the alcoves to maximise the generous floor space further, and taking centre stage is the original marble fireplace as a reminder of the buildings age and grandeur. While this is not open, it adds character and is perfect for use as a mantel. Further along the hallway, passing further bespoke storage solutions and a bounteous under stair cupboard you come to the glamourous bathroom. While the floor tiles are ceramic, they look and feel like limestone and they are heated from below so your toes will remain toasty - even in winter. A ceiling mounted rainfall showerhead has been positioned over the modern bath suite, and the back-lit mirrored cabinet can stay. the master bedroom At the far end of the flat is bedroom two which is wonderfully tranquil as it leads out to the most gorgeous garden. This is the largest in the terrace, and is magical with luscious planting throughout. You can dine out here during the warmer seasons, below birdsong and amongst the scents of lavender. It has the perfect mix of tropical and English garden planting, and plenty of space for a kitchen garden for the green fingered. This is an exceptional apartment which has so many positive features, it is sure to coveted by many.

what the owner says

"This has been a fantastic flat to live in, and a joy to renovate. We fell in love with the garden when we first saw the flat - it is such a tranquil space for dinner during the warmer months. The location cannot be beaten for entertainment and eateries, and of course the proximity to the beach and the station has been wonderful. Our family is growing so we will need more space, otherwise we would happily stay." the bedroom 3
