International Workshop on Function Spaces and Applications

Freyburg/ (), July 6 - 12, 2008

Second Announcement Dear Colleague, we have received your pre-registration for the

International Workshop on “Function Spaces and Applications”, July 6-12, 2008. http://www.minet.uni-jena.de/∼wfs/ with great pleasure. The conference is an essential part of the German-Russian research project “Function spaces adapted to applications in partial differential equations, spectral theory, and fractal analysis”. It is mainly funded by the DFG (436 RUS 113/903/0-1). We thank you for your interest and would like to give some further information.

1. Lectures The programme of the conference consists of invited plenary lectures (50 minutes) and shorter communications given by the participants. The main lectures are the following : • Oleg V. Besov, Steklov Institute Moscow / Russia “The spaces of differentiable functions on irregular domains” • Viktor I. Burenkov, Peoples Friendship University of Russia, Moscow / Russia “Recent progress in studying the boundedness of classical operators of real analy- sis in general Morrey-type spaces” • Michail Gol’dman, Peoples Friendship University of Russia, Moscow / Russia “On integral properties of generalized Bessel potentials” • Dorothee D. Haroske, Friedrich-Schiller-University / Germany “Envelopes in function spaces” • Luboˇs Pick, Charles University Prague / Czech Republic “Traces and Rearrangements” • Hans Triebel, Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena / Germany “Wavelets in function spaces” • Dachun Yang, Beijing Normal University / China “New Besov-type Spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin-type Spaces”

You can have a look at the corresponding abstracts via http://www.minet.uni-jena.de/∼wfs/wfs-t.shtml

We received many applications for short communications (25 minutes). We shall try that every participant who wants to give a talk will have this opportunity; this implies that there might be a small number of parallel sessions. So we ask all participants (who have not yet done this) to send us titles & abstracts of their talks by May 15, 2008, at latest. There will also be an opportunity for ad hoc -seminars. The lecture rooms will be all equipped with an overhead projector, a data projector + laptop, and a small (white) board. The largest lecture room (for the plenary talks) has, in addition, a second overhead projector.

2. Lecture Notes Instead of (usual, printed) Proceedings we plan to offer all speakers of this workshop the possibility to send us their material, slides etc. afterwards (preferably in pdf or ps). Alternatively also a (closely linked) paper would be welcome. We collect all this material (or links to your personal web pages) and “publish” it on a special web page of this workshop such that participants can download the files. You may contact us if you have any question.

3. Registration You will receive a separate Email within the next days where we ask you to confirm and complete your details for the registration. As soon as you return this (possibly corrected) email to us [email protected] your pre-registration becomes a binding registration and we shall reserve the accom- modation according to your wishes then. You should reply to this confirmation message by May 15, 2008 at latest. Please note, that we cannot guarantee that everyone who applied for a single room can have it, because the total number of rooms is restricted. So please read your con- firmation message carefully ! We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you in advance.

4. Venue The Conference will take place in Berghotel zum Edelacker, Freyburg / Unstrut http://www.edelacker.de/

situated in a beautiful countryside about 50 km north of Jena. This region is popular as an old wine-growing country with more than 1000 years tradition, Freyburg itself being the centre of this most northerly wine-growing area within Europe. One of the oldest champagne producers in Germany, “Rotkappchen”¨ (reminding of the fairy ta- le Little Red Riding Hood) is based in Freyburg (http://www.rotkaeppchen.de/). The town (http://www.freyburg-info.de/startseite.html) is embedded into a cultural and hi- storically distinct landscape, linked by the famous Route of Romanesque, including, in particular, the picturesque town Naumburg with its famous “St. Peter and Paul” (http://www.naumburg.de), the prehistoric sites within the Natural Reser- ve -Unstrut-Triasland (http://www.naturpark-saale-unstrut.de/) and, directly ad- jacent to our hotel, the impressive old castle Schloss Neuenburg (http://www.schloss- neuenburg.de/English-Site.html). This huge castle on the east side of the Unstrut river valley was founded around 1090 by a Thuringian count, its double chapel, built bet- ween 1170 and 1200, is still an architectural treasure. The town is also famous for its son Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, a historic personality often called “the father of gymnastics” in Germany (http://www.jahn-museum.de/). Naumburg, only a few kilometers away from Freyburg, has direct fast train connections to Berlin and Frankfurt/Main.

5. Costs & Payment The accommodation is arranged at the hotel in single and double rooms with full board (buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner). The price is 95 e per night and person in a single room and 76 e per night and person in a double room. The accommodation should be paid directly to the hotel after your arrival. The conference fee is 60 e, if paid before May 31, 2008, and 75 e after May 31, 2008. It must be paid by bank transfer only, where bank charges have to be assumed by the registrant. After doing the bank transfer, please send us an email (to [email protected]) or a fax (to +49 3641 9-46102), with a copy of the bank remittance slip. The details of the conference account are :

The lectures are scheduled on Monday (not starting before 10 a.m.), Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday and Friday (lasting until 6 p.m. at latest). Wednesday afternoon is reserved for a hiking trip through the beautiful local scenery. Alternatively, we shall organise a guided walk in the nearby Naumburg with its famous cathedral.
