Nowadays, in the world full of possibilities, we have a very little idea of what the proper way to speak is. All people from different countries all around the world have an opportunity to express themselves. That’s why in everyday life we hear such incredible amount of accents and dialects. And this is the reason why people start forgetting what the real etalon of speech is. Received Pronunciation is the etalon of speech in the English . We made the following hypothesis : - RP is the classical variant of pronunciation and it is the most widely studied by non-native speakers. - RP is not so popular nowadays and it has been replaced by variations of regional accents mixed with RP. Research objective: The aim of this project is to study the features of the RP and to set its place in the , to set the difference between RP and other accents of English. For achievement of a goal the following tasks were put forward:  To study theoretical material about History and Usage of the RP  To reveal some of the works in English cinema and literature.  To emphasize the features of the RP Object of research :Received Pronunciation The subject of the research: The Use of Received Pronunciation in various aspects of English Speech, Culture and Art. For realization of a goal and tasks the following methodsof research were used: • The theoretical analysis and literature generalization on a research problem. • Practically analysis of texts of works of classical literature of 18th – 20th century. • Analysis of works of a cinema,TV and radio. • The analysis obtained yielded and statistical processing of results. The work consists of introduction, theoretical part, practical part, the conclusion and literature. In theoretical part we learn all about what is the Received Pronunciation, history of the RP and usage in these days.

In the practical part we identified features of the RP with the aid of phonetic dictionaries and transcription of certain words in comparison with other accents in English language (especially General American and accent), and to fix material I used clip from TV series “Jeeves and Wooster”. Also to see use of the RP in various aspects of English Speech I used video clips from BBC series “Pride and Prejudice” and films “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”and “The Importance of Being Earnest”. Also there is BBC first ever broadcast. To compare RP with American Accent we will see clip from popular American series “The Big Bang Theory”.And to compare RP with Cockney Accent we will see clip from BBC series “Call the Midwife”.

Coming to the end of the research we have come to the following conclusions:  RP getting less and less popular in the course of the time.  But RP still is the living accent on which many celebrities are talking, but also a theoretical linguistic concept.  Some samples of using RP proved by movies, TV and radio.  Now people want to get RP no more to show they can achieve anything with their regional accent. Some recommendations to Master English: Pronunciation is the most important part of learning the English language. You can choose any accent you want: posh RP, friendly American, soft Irish and even distinctive Cockney. But once you owned one of them you can be sure that you will earn confident and anything you say would sound more noticeably. The methodological basis of research was made by development of many foreign researchers on this subject. 1. Fowler, H.W. (1996). R.W. Birchfield, ed. Fowler's Usage. ; 2. G.B.
