Mr. Ali moved, Ms. Trevorrow seconded and it was voted 7-0 to enter executive session pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. Section 405(6)(A) to consider the compensation of an employee at 7:09 pm. [ES-51-14/15]

Business Meeting – 7:15 PM Chair Thompson called the Business Meeting to order at 7:30 PM.

Members Present: Anna Trevorrow, Pious Ali, Laurie Davis, Marnie Morrione, Jenna Vendil, Stephanie Hatzenbuehler, John Eder and Chair Sarah Thompson

Members Absent: Holly Seeliger, Sahra Ahmed, Sophie VanDerburgh, Johnny Phan Maria Fontaine

I. Report of the Chair – Chair Thompson reported that an executive session had been held prior to the business meeting to discuss compensation of an employee. She announced that the Board will hold a Superintendent Search workshop at the next meeting on August 18th. She also thanked the Board members for taking the time to meet in July and reminded board members about the upcoming MSMA conference.

II. Report of the Students –None

III. Report of the Superintendent – Ms. Crocker announced the following new hires: Becky Foley as the CAO; Fred Barlow as the Transportation Director and Kim Brandt as our new Director of School Management. She also announced that Rene Bourgoine- Serio has been chosen to fill the Teacher- Leader positon at Peaks elementary. She then introduced Mary Bennet, President of the Portland Education Foundation who announced that Kate Snyder has been hired as the Executive Director at PEF.

IV. Report of the Secretary

a. Consideration and Action to Approve the Meeting Minutes of June 30, 2015, July 7, 2015 and July 28, 2015 [A-262-14/15]

Ms. Morrione moved, Ms. Trevorrow seconded and it was voted unanimously by all those present to approve the meeting minutes of June 30, 2015, July 7, 2015 and July 28, 2015 [A-262-14/15]

V. Report of the Committees a. Curriculum – Ms. Trevorrow reported the next scheduled meeting will be September 8 at 6 pm in room 353 at Central office.

b. Operations –Ms. Morrione reported that a tentative meeting has been scheduled for September 15 at 5:30 pm.

c. Finance –Ms. Davis reported that the committee will be scheduling a meeting in September date TBD

d. Policy – Mr. Ali reported that the next meeting will be September 1 prior to the Board meeting at City Hall

e. Hall Building – Mr. Tom LaFavore spoke about the Hall Education Specifications report which is scheduled for a first read later in the agenda.

f. Other Committees and/or member concerns- Mr. Eder reported that the METRO Task Force met earlier this evening where they had an update on the progress made in getting the high school students ready for the first day of school transportation. He reported that cards have been issued to students and an event will be scheduled for committee members to take a test ride on the buses. The next meeting of the Task Force will be at the end of next month to receive an additional update. Ms. Vendil reported the she had attended a recent meet and greet at Peaks Island School to welcome the new teacher leader, Ms. Bourgoine-Serio. The event was well attended by community members.

VII. Old Business a. Consideration and action to approve the Reiche Elementary School Innovation Plan in support of its application to the MDOE commissioner for approval as a teacher-led school. [A-265-14/15]

Kristen Powell Social Worker/Bayside 1.0 $55,923 Ms. Powell holds a MS in Social Work from UMaine. Her Social Worker experience consist of two years at Noble High School Health Center/Nasson Health Care; four years at Opportunity Alliance, at the same time working as an independent clinician for Outpatient Therapist/Private Practice; seven years at The Collaborative School.

Stacy Stanton Science/Casco Bay 1.0 $43,301 Ms. Stanton holds a MS in Education from Northwest Nazarene University, a MS in STEM Education from Boise State University, a BS in Biomedical Engineering from BU, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Baylor University. For the past two years she has been Science Educator at Nampa School District.

Jennifer Galasso Science/Casco Bay 1.0 $46,995 Ms. Galasso holds a MS in Education from USM, as well as a BS in Marine Biology from UNE. She has been the K-12 Science Curriculum Facilitator for the past year RSU 1. Prior to that she was the 6-8 Science Curriculum Facilitator for RSU 1 for three years and a science teacher at Bath Middle School for one year.

William Leque Math/Casco Bay 1.0 $55,923 Mr. Leque holds a BA in Business Administration from University of Washington - Seattle. For the past nine years he has been a Math Teacher at Westbrook High School. He also served in the Navy for seven years and in the Navy Reserves for the past twelve years.

James Harmon Science/Deering 1.0 $53,228 Mr. Harmon holds a CAS in Education from UNE. He also has a BS in Biology and is currently working towards a MS in Biology from USM. For the past eight years he has been a Science Teacher at Sanford School Department. He also worked for a year at Marshwood Junior High School.

Ashley Boothby Spanish/District 1.0 $45,648 Ms. Boothby holds a BA in Spanish and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College. She had previously worked for the PPS for six years as a Middle School Spanish Teacher.

Kacie Collins BCBA/District 1.0 $55,923 Ms. Collins holds a MS in Applied Behavior Analysis from Northeastern University and a BA in Communication Disorders from Louisiana State University. For the past two years she has been the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) for RSU 13. Prior experience consists of one year as a Behaviorist at Milestones Day School, four years as the Senior Behavior Clinician for The Guild for Human Services, one year as the Behavior Analyst Supervisor for Franklin Elementary School, three years as a Teacher/Case Manager for The New England Center for Children, and one year as a Teacher for Montessori Children's House.

Rebecca Cummings Nurse/East End 1.0 $46,995 Ms. Cummings holds a BS in Nursing from University of Phoenix. Her nursing experience consists of five years as Socorro ISD, and five months at Rio Grande Border Health Clinic. Prior to that she was in the US Army.

Carie Garrett Many Rivers/Hall 1.0 $44,301 Ms. Garrett holds a BS in Child and Family Relations from UMaine. Her teaching experience consists of Pre-K for four years at Catherine Morrill Day Nursery and one year as the lead teacher at Parkside Children's Learning Center.

Margaret Sobol Language Arts/King 1.0 $57,270 Ms. Sobol holds a MS in Education from University of Colorado at Boulder, as well as a BA in English from College of Wooster. For the past ten years, Ms. Sobol has been a Language Arts Teacher for Adams County School District 50. Prior experience includes one year as a Compass Mentor Teacher; Rishel Beacon Leader at Catholic Charities of Denver w/ Denver Public Schools and one year as a Language Arts Teacher for Jefferson County School District.

For the past six years Ms. Wellehan has been an Art Teacher for Seattle School District, Eckstein Middle School. Prior to that she was a Teacher at Reading and Theatre Arts for Seattle School District at Washington Middle School for eleven years.
