Why Stockton Folk Dance Camp Still Produces a Syllabus
Syllabus of Dance Descriptions STOCKTON FOLK DANCE CAMP – 2018 FINAL In Memoriam Rickey Holden – 1926-2017 Rickey was a square and folk dance teacher, researcher, caller, record producer, and author. Rickey was largely responsible for spreading recreational international folk dancing throughout Europe and Asia. Rickey learned ballroom dance in Austin Texas in 1935 and 1936. He started square and contra dancing in Vermont in 1939. He taught international folk dance all over Europe and Asia, eventually making his home base in Brussels. He worked with Folkraft Records in the early years. He taught at Stockton Folk Dance Camp in the 1940s and 50s, plus an additional appearance in 1992. In addition to dozens of books about square dancing, he also authored books on Israeli, Turkish, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Greek, and Macedonian dance. STOCKTON FOLK DANCE CAMP – 2018 FINAL Preface Many of the dance descriptions in the syllabus have been or are being copyrighted. They should not be reproduced in any form without permission. Specific permission of the instructors involved must be secured. Camp is satisfied if a suitable by-line such as “Learned at Folk Dance Camp, University of the Pacific” is included. Akif KORKMAZ ÖZ Giresun’da bilinen en eski halkbilimi derlemesi Tirebolu’da yayla ot göçü âdeti üzerine bir çalıĢmadır. Bu araĢtırma 1915 yılında Türk Yurdu Dergisi’nde çıkmıĢtır. Yayın, Tirebolulu ġehit BinbaĢı Hüseyin Avni Beye aittir. Bu yayından sonra Cumhuriyetin onuncu yılından itibaren Halkevleri teĢkilatı üzerinden yerli ve milli kültürü derleme, tanıtma, iĢleme ve yayma faaliyetleri çerçevesinde Giresun’da görevli eğitimcilerle folklor çalıĢmaları baĢlamıĢ ve ardından kırklı yıllarda ilk folklor makaleleri ve yayınları çıkmıĢtır. Giresun Aksu Halkevi Mecmuası’nda folklorun ilk teorik-kuramsal makalelerini Tirebolulu Osman Turgut Pamirli yazmıĢtır. Tirebolu’dan derlediği sözlü geleneğe ait çeĢitli folklor malzemelerini 1943 yılında müstakil bir eser olarak yayımlamıĢtır. O yıllarda Giresun ġebinkarahisar ilçesi Tamzara Ġlkokulu BaĢöğretmeni Tamzaralı Hasan Tahsin Okutan, özgün folklor malzemesinden oluĢan bir ġebinkarahisar monografisi hazırlamıĢtır. 1949 tarihli eserde 20 âdet düğün oyunu türküsü, 5 oturak havası türküsü ile 2 iĢ ve meslek türküsü sözlü olarak derlenmiĢtir. Bu makale ġebinkarahisar’a ait köy düğünü danslarının ve oturak türkülerinin derlenmesini, icra bağlamını, biçimini, dansların niteliklerini Giresun’daki eski halkbilimi çalıĢmaları bağlamında incelemiĢtir. ġebinkarahisar’ın köylü dansları ve buna eĢlik eden türkülerle beraber sözlü gelenekleri hem o yıllarda hem daha sonra yapılmıĢ diğer derlemelerle karĢılaĢtırılarak inceleme tamamlanmıĢtır. Totaly 99 voluntary female dancers at least 5 years experience in halay, horon and zeybek had participated to the study. this research age, height, weight, anaerobic power, reaction time, speed, flexibility, leg force and body fat In percentage of the groups had measured. The statistical analysis of data had calculated in the computer by SPSS 10.0 package program. The significant level had taken as 0.05 and 0.01 (p<0.05 and p<0.01).In the study it had found out that there’s no significant importance in the height, anaerobic power, flexibility,leg force and anaeorobic endurance in the level of significant difference p<0.05 in female groups.There’s a significant difference had found out in age, reaction time, speed and body fat percentage at the p<0.05 level in males. -

Buchanan, Chair Professor Emeritus Thomas Turino Professor Gabriel Solis Professor Maria Todorova ABSTRACT This dissertation explores the multilayered connections between music, emotionality, social and cultural belonging, collective memory, and identity discourse. The ethnographic case study for the examination of all these relations and aspects is the Pontic muhabeti or parakathi. Parakathi refers to a practice of socialization and music making that is designated insider Pontic Greek. It concerns primarily Pontic Greeks or Pontians, the descendants of the 1922 refugees from Black Sea Turkey (Gr. Pontos), and their identity discourse of ethno-regionalism. Parakathi references nightlong sessions of friendly socialization, social drinking, and dialogical participatory singing that take place informally in coffee houses, taverns, and households. Parakathi performances are reputed for their strong Pontic aesthetics, traditional character, rich and aesthetically refined repertoire, and intense emotionality. Singing in parakathi performances emerges spontaneously from verbal socialization and emotional saturation. Singing is described as a confessional expression of deeply personal feelings -

Romalı bir çığırtkanın ağzından konuşuyoruz. İlişkiler Çalışmaları Derneği çatısı altında yayım hayatına başlamıştır. Bir önceki ay içinde yaşanan, bizim özellikle dikkat Her derginin söylediği “farklı” bir çekmek istediğimiz ve konuşmaya değer olayların sözünün olması gerekir. Bu “farklı” sözü “haber toplantısı” usulü tartışıldığı ve kaleme alındığı söyleyebilmek adına TUİÇ Akademi dergisi; izafi coğrafi bölüm. Amaçlanan, okuyucuya olabildiğince kısa ve bölünmelerden ve sınırlamalardan sıyrılarak evrensel yoğun bilgi içeren konuşmalarla olan biteni anlat- düzeyde düşünebilmeyi, bunu gerçekleştirirken de Türkiye mak. Bazı haberlerde uzman isimlerden yorumlar, bu başta olmak üzere dünyanın çeşitli üniversitelerindeki yazılara eklenecek.
