FIRST DISTRICT HEALTH UNIT Job Description – Public Health Nurse LPN

Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse Reports To: Director of Pay Grade: 10

Summary Licensed Practical Nurse functions as a vital member of the healthcare team who contributes to the success of Public Health by demonstrating customer/patient focus, effective communication, professionalism, and teamwork. Utilizes the to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care provided to selected client populations and their families. Instructs individuals and families in health education and disease prevention in Public Health by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of our clients. • Implementing and participating in immunization and vaccination programs for both children and adults. • Advising, supporting, and administering vaccinations for traveling patients. • Performs basic nursing care to clients by following established standards and procedures. • Providing information and advising on medication regimens, interactions, and side effects. • Taking urine and blood samples, other swabs and specimens if needed. • Providing information about various health conditions or any minor ailments, referring clients as necessary. • Restocking and maintaining supplies and clinical areas. • Document care provided or procedures performed accurately in the clinical electronic . • Attends required staff meetings and represents FDHU on community organizations when requested by Supervisor. • Participate in data collection. • Assists in disaster response as directed by Director of Nursing. • Prioritizing health problems and intervening appropriately in order to assist patients in emergency, complex, or urgent situations, including commencement of valuable emergency care. • Collaborates with other health personnel in epidemiological investigations and control.

Requirements: • Must have current Licensed Practical Nurse license to practice in North Dakota. • Minimum of one year of nursing experience. • Must be eligible for Professional Liability Insurance. • Must be certified in CPR. • Must have a current driver’s license. • Must provide immunization record prior to employment. • Must have ACIP vaccines recommended for healthcare workers within 6 months of employment. • Annual influenza vaccination required.
